First Date's Merlin Griffiths Shares Cancer Update With Fans From Hospital Bed

First Dates star Merlin Griffiths has shared an update on his cancer diagnosis

First Dates star Merlin Griffiths has shared two updates on his cancer diagnosis.

In September last year, Merlin who is best-known as the bartender on the Channel 4 dating series, announced that he had been diagnosed with bowel cancer.

He has since been preparing to undergo surgery to remove the tumour.

Yesterday the star posted an update to Instagram.

"Ready as I'll ever be. Tumour removal time. đŸ„‚ #bowelcancerawarenessmonth" He captioned the image, showing him in hospital.

Fans were quick to comment their well wishes, with one writing: "Sending all the love in the world to you Merlin! You’re one of the loveliest souls I’ve ever met and you’ve absolutely got this!"

In the early hours of this morning he posted another update stating that the surgery had been a success.

The 46-year-old wrote: "2am. Tubes outta everywhere. Aches and pains. But no tumour! #bowelcancerawarenessmonth"

Well wishers included TV Chef Sabrina Ghayour-Lynn who wrote: "Best news ever. Wishing you a good and gentle recovery x" and Eastenders star Adam Woodyat who added a trio of praising hands emojis.

Since undergoing Merlin has also posted to Twitter to update fans and thank the NHS for "literally saving [his] life."

Fans were quick to share their well-wishes, alongside their own stories of the NHS's life-saving treatment.

One wrote: "NHS are fantastic, my mum beat cancer almost 2 years ago now it was a crazy journey months and months of poking and proding surgery and tablets she and the NHS fought and won, hope everything goes well with you 💙"

"So pleased to see this; you got the surgery you needed and that can only be a good thing! Now take very good care of yourself as you recover đŸ€— and yes, the NHS is pretty awesome 💙" added another.

While a third simply said: "Kick cancers ass and get well Merlin, sending love"
