The Princess of Wales made a rare comment about parenting as she shared an emotional cancer update on Wednesday (2 July).

As we know, Kate Middleton and Prince William, both 43, are the proud parents to three royal children - Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven.

While we regularly see adorable photos and picture-perfect moments of the family-of-five, it’s not often that we see Kate get candid about parenting.

Even if you’re a member of the royal family, raising children can of course be difficult at times, as it is for any mother.

And during her most recent appearance at Colchester Hospital’s wellbeing garden earlier this week, Kate made a very relatable comment about motherhood.

But first and most importantly, she gave fans an update on her cancer journey and spoke candidly about the emotional and physical 'post‑treatment phase'.

She revealed her diagnosis back in March of last year before confirming she was now in remission in January of this year.

During the new visit, which marked her first appearance since missing Royal Ascot a few weeks back (18 June), the Princess admitted that the process has been 'really, really difficult'.

Kate said: “You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment's done, then it's like, 'I can crack on, get back to normal,' but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult."

She continued: "You're not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you're not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to.

"And actually, someone to help talk you through that, show you and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment, I think is really valuable."

The Princess explained that ‘you have to find your new normal’ which can be ‘a rollercoaster’ rather than ‘smooth, like you expect it to be’.

She candidly admitted: "But the reality is you go through hard times."

And as she gave royal fans the emotional update, some fans noticed she also carried around a cup of tea with her.

But as it turns out, Kate had a pretty good reason not let it out of her sight.

According to The New York post, she made the joke: “As a parent, you know you'll keep losing your cup of tea.”

If this isn’t the most British statement ever to come from a royal, we’re not sure what is.

Kate also strayed away from royal tradition as she stopped outside of the hospital to take selfies with staff and well-wishers.

Taking selfies is something that Kate and Will have done for some time now, effectively replacing the late Queen Elizabeth II’s strict no picture stance with a much more willing approach.

The couple have been seen out and about on numerous occasions embracing the crowds and posing for endless selfies with their adoring supporters.
