Netflix has confirmed the glorious news that there will be a second season of its hit show Wednesday.

In a post on Twitter, the streaming giant wrote: “It’s official: Wednesday Season 2 is coming!” Alongside a short clip you can see here:

The show, which stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, has proved to be a huge hit with audiences.

Last month, it was announced that Wednesday had become Netflix’s second most-watched English language TV show of all time - racking up more than one billion hours of watch time in its first month of release.

The show’s huge popularity led to many fans demanding a second season and now it looks like their dreams are set to be realised with Netflix officially declaring there’s one on the way.

As you can imagine, fans are delighted at the announcement, with one writing: “About damn time.”

Another said: “Was it obvious? Yes. Am I still very excited? Also yes," while a third added: “I was literally gonna end my Netflix subscription if Wednesday got cancelled.”

Just yesterday Netflix had teased a possible second season in a Twitter post.

In a short clip, we saw Ortega's Wednesday sitting at her typewriter and typing away as the camera pans overhead to reveals she’s typed: “The End”.

The shot hovers for what seems like a lifetime before a question mark is whacked on the end of it. Not exactly subtle, is it?

Ortega is hoping the second season will really up the ante on her character and allow her to dive deeper into her goth roots.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight last year, she said she wanted to see Wednesday Addams reach her full potential.

"I kind of want her to be darker," she explained.

"I want her to get more in the nitty-gritty of things and not play things so safe, because there are a lot of lines about her saving the school and doing whatever, but for me, her main drive with the monster is of a competitiveness.

"Kind of, 'Man, how's this guy doing this?'

"I think I want it to continue down an antihero stream rather than a typical hero."

However, a second season could look quite different to the first according to show runner Miles Millar who recently revealed he’d like to take a closer look at the whole Addams Family clan in the future.

He said: “We felt like we just touched the surface with those characters and the actors are so amazing in those roles.

“Catherine [Zeta-Jones] is, I think, an iconic Morticia.

"The relationship between Wednesday and Morticia is also essential to the show, and the idea that Wednesday is trying to forge her own path outside the family is important.”
