It’s officially Christmas time, and one of the top movie choices for the festive season is The Holiday.
Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz star in the rom-com classic as Iris and Amanda, two women from opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean who have unfortunate love lives. To avoid heartbreak during the most wonderful time of the year, they decide to switch houses.
Iris (Kate Winslet) is a journalist for The Daily Telegraph in London, who is still in love with her ex, Jasper Bloom (Rufus Sewell) while LA-based movie trailer producer Amanda Woods (Cameron Diaz), breaks up with her boyfriend (Edward Burns).
As the two women move into each other’s homes, they meet new people and fall in and out of love.

But now, 15 years after the film’s debut, a fan on Reddit has completely changed our perception of this cosy Christmas tale – and it’s actually quite dark.
Reddit user tectonic_fever posted their chilling theory on the Fan Theories forum on the site to put forward the idea the film is actually a murder plot.
The fan has concluded Iris and her widower brother, Graham (Jude Law), who falls for Amanda, hatched a plan to use the home exchange website to murder her and steal her money.
"This idea makes the mediocre Christmas movie so much more entertaining," they said.

"Kate Winslet and Jude Law are laying a trap where he will seduce Cameron Diaz, marry her, kill her, and inherit her fortune.
The Reddit fan suggests Jude Law’s character Graham murdered his first wife so he could inherit her house.
“Now he and his sister have used the house swap scheme to get Cameron Diaz into their town while Kate Winslet can investigate and make sure [Amanda Woods] has enough money and property (and no family/entanglements) to be worth the effort of seducing her and then disposing of her.”

The Holiday fan uses the scene when Iris arrives at Amanda’s house and is ‘overjoyed’ to see how luxurious it is because she knows she has ‘hit the jackpot’.
This theory definitely destroys the snug and homely vibe of the film. And it gets even more grim.
The Reddit user added: “Meanwhile, Jude carefully sets up an ‘accidental’ meeting and manipulates Cameron to develop a relationship and get his claws into her. Everything that follows is orchestrated to carry out their plot.

“Kate Winslet was maybe also planning to seduce and marry the old screenwriter and wait for him to die and leave his house/fortune until Jack Black interfered.”
We’re gonna have to watch The Holiday again ASAP.
