Riverdale has established a reputation for its mind-boggling plot twists and character developments.

The teen drama’s sixth season returned to our screens after a brief hiatus with the shocking death of Hiram Lodge, played by Mark Consuelos.

As fans speculate whether Riverdale’s key villain and Archie’s (KJ Apa) nemesis is really dead, even after his death was discussed on screen, the creator of the popular series has added fuel to the fire.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly after the shocking scenes aired, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa

Hinted this may not be the last time we see Consuelos or his character Hiram.

"He's as dead as anyone on Riverdale has ever been," he teased, seemingly referencing the show’s knack for reviving dead characters.

Aguirre-Sacasa added: “Even when characters are dead, they come back sometimes in flashbacks or dreams. I'll say this: Mark Consuelos isn't dead on Riverdale, though Hiram pretty much is."

Although it sounds like Hiram is not set to return to terrorise Archie or his friends in the near future, Aguirre-Sacasa didn’t completely rule it out.

Hiram has been a key villain in Riverdale since he first appeared in season two.

Consuelos confirmed his departure in October 2021 after starring as Hiram for a total of four seasons.

The character was one of the main antagonists in the series and the former wrestler and CEO of Lodge Industries is Veronica’s (Camila Mendes) dad.

In addition to his deadly vendetta against Archie throughout the series, Hiram also transformed the town of Riverdale into a grim ghost town when Archie and his pals went their separate ways after high school.

Hiram allegedly organised for a bomb to blow up Archie’s house. After learning of her dad’s sinister plan against her ex-boyfriend, Veronica organised a hit on her dad in a blind rage.

Veronica has a change of heart and calls hitman Anatol (Andre Roshkov) to call off the hit, but it’s too late. When she calls him, the hitman confirms the job is already done and her dad is dead.

Tragic!

Riverdale continues on Monday, 28th March on Netflix UK.
