Love Island: Mollie Salmon’s Family Apologise Over Allergy Comment

Mollie's family released an official apology after she described allergies as a 'turn off'.

The family of Love Island contestant Mollie Salmon have apologised on her behalf after her comments about allergies angered viewers. Watch below:

The clip was shown as part of an interview on Love Island: Aftersun on Sunday night (3 July).

When asked to describe her biggest turn off, the makeup artist from Southampton shared: "I actually dated a boy with loads of allergies. When you go to a restaurant and you can’t eat anything on the menu, and it’s really frustrating".

The bombshell's comments were criticised online, with the charity Allergy UK speaking out after the interview clip aired. “We’re disappointed with statements made by a @LoveIsland contestant in Sun Ep of AfterSun re food allergies," the charity tweeted.

“It highlights why we need better awareness around the reality of living with allergies. We urge speaking up about allergies yet such attitudes make it harder to do so.”

Mollie's family responded online with an apology and noted that she happens to have an allergy to fish.

Her family said: "We’d like to apologise for any upset caused by the allergy comment made.

"This was not said with any bad intentions and wasn’t said to purposely be offensive or upset anyone. Mollie herself suffers from an allergy to seafood!

"Thank you for the continued love and support."

ITV declined to comment further when contacted by Tyla.

Mollie is one of the six new girls added to the main villa while the girls ventured off to Casa Amor earlier this week.

When asked to describe why she decided to join Love Island now, Mollie said: “My mum got married at my age and my cousin is already engaged so she’s always told me how I should hurry up and find someone.

“I’m terrible at picking men so I thought Love Island would do a better job than me.”

Mollie set her sights on fishmonger Luca Bish and on Sunday’s episode she pulled him for a chat.

“Guess what? My last name’s Salmon,” she said.

“No, it’s not,” Luca replied.

Mollie Salmon is currently taking part in Love Island.

Speaking about his coupling with Gemma, Mollie asked: “So are you quite open still, or semi-closed?”

He said: “I’m semi-closed, yeah. But you just don’t know what’s happening over there….Listen, if someone were to come in here. It would take something special, and you don’t know.”

Jacques O’Neill, who is currently coupled up with Paige Throne, recently expressed an interest in testing his coupling by getting to know both Mollie and fellow new girl Cheyanne Kerr, a 23-year-old cabin crew worker from Barnsley.

Jacques and Cheyanne were spotted leaning in for a kiss in the preview for Wednesday's (6 July) episode.

Love Island continues tonight at 9:00pm on ITV 2 and ITV Hub.
