Mamma Mia 3 is 'finally in the works'

Mamma Mia 3 is 'finally in the works'

Here we go again... again

Buckle up Mamma Mia fans, it's good news for your favourite ABBA-themed rom-com as it sounds like a third movie is on the way.

It's been a whopping 15 years since the first Mamma Mia released and a decade later Mamma Mia 2 showed up, and almost immediately after that fans were hoping a third film was right around the corner.

Quite a few stars of the movies have made it very clear they have a dream to come back for a third go - and possibly even more - so perhaps it's time for Universal Pictures to put their money, money, money together and get the movie made.

Finally it seems like the moment has arrived to say 'here we go again' (again), after the show's creator confirmed she had a story ready, plus there are still more ABBA songs out there to cover.

She did say back in 2020 she'd been planning on coming up with a fresh story so fans could one day see Mamma Mia 3, and a few years later, the buzz is growing.

According to Deadline, Mamma Mia creator, Judy Craymer, has got some fresh ideas to take things forward.

One of those plans is the upcoming ITV show Mamma Mia: I Have A Dream, which is looking for people who could be the next undiscovered gem in Broadway talent to play Sophie and Sky at the West End.

But wait, there's more! She's also pushing to make Mamma Mia 3 a reality, though before you get too excited, the movie is still in the 'earliest stages'.

Step one to bringing Mamma Mia 3 to life was figuring out some way to bring all the characters back together again, and Craymer reckons she's worked out how to do it, now she needs to get Meryl Streep on board.

She said: "I don’t want to over-egg it, but I know there’s a trilogy there. There is a story there, and I do think Meryl should come back - and if the script is right, she would, I think, because she really loved playing Donna."

Craymer's not the only one willing to take a chance on Mamma Mia 3 as movie star, Pierce Brosnan, told The Kelly Clarkson Show that the cast were 'talking about it'.

While audiences might be shouting 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!', it's still really early days for the film's production - though Brosnan reckons his co-stars would come back as 'it was criminal how much fun we had'.

If a third movie does get made, that might be it for the Mamma Mia story, as Craymer has been talking about a trilogy. So when the credits roll, it might be a case of 'Thank You for the Music'.
