Love Island fans are convinced the Twitter challenge is coming back this year

It sees Islanders shown tweets from the general public, with names of contestants blocked out

Love Island fans are convinced that the Twitter challenge is coming back this year, having spotted a clue on the show’s official social media account.

The challenge, which has previously been called ‘Twitter Bingo’, ‘Online Bingo’ and ‘Online Buzz’, sees Islanders shown tweets from the general public, with names of contestants blocked out.

They have to guess who the comments - which often aren’t too flattering - are about, often highlighting just how little they know about what viewers think of them.

The challenge was last shown in 2019 under the name ‘Online Buzz’, when it was met with allegations that tweets included in the game had been faked.

That time round, Molly-Mae Hague was accused of coupling up with Tommy Fury to increase her chance of winning the show's £50,000 cash prize... See, I told you they weren’t always particularly nice, though given that she's now shacked up with Fury with a child, maybe things were more serious than some people gave them credit for.

Even Stormzy once got involved.

The tweet used in the game described Hague as 'Money-Mae', but many people to struggled to find it when they searched online, leaving some to believe it was made up.

However, it may of course just have been deleted after being posted.

But now fans are convinced it’s on its way back, having noticed a potential indication on the official Love Island Twitter account.

TikToker Ayesha Marie (@ayeshamarie__) posted a video on the matter a few days ago, saying: “Could the Twitter Challenge actually be back this year????”

In the clip, she explained: “Is everyone else seeing this? The official Love Island Twitter page have updated their bio, and it says #LoveIsland and @LoveIsland tweets and replies may be used on social, including your name and/or Twitter handle.

“After all these years, and how well the producers are producing this year, do we think that we might actually get it back?

“Oh my God, the drama!”

It doesn't however, make any mention of tweets and replies being used in the actual show.

While we don't know for sure, you might be best off watching what you say on social media for now, eh?

We've already seen plenty of twists and turns in the latest instalment, with former Love Island winner Davide Sanclimenti even hinting he could return to shake things up in the villa following his split from Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu.

We're set to see contestants experience a shake up today (30 June) when they're split up and introduced to some new Islanders through Casa Amor.

The second villa usually introduces brand-new contestants, but there have been some rumours this year that previous Islanders will make a return.

Molly Marsh, who was axed from the villa earlier this season, is among those thought to be returning, and one post on Davide's Instagram has sparked speculation that he could also be making a comeback.

The snaps showed Davide standing in a pool of water and soaking up the sun, with the location tagged as Ibiza.

Alongside the images, Davide wrote: "Guess who’s coming back."

Only time will tell...
