How I Met Your Father: HIMYM Fans Heartbroken Over Spin-Off Trailer Starring Hilary Duff And Kim Cattrall

How I Met Your Father: HIMYM Fans Heartbroken Over Spin-Off Trailer Starring Hilary Duff And Kim Cattrall

While we’re excited, we hope this one’s got a better ending…

Sitcom fans, time to sit up straight – we’ve been given the first look at How I Met Your Father, the spin-off to the hugely popular How I Met Your Mother.

The new series sees Hilary Duff star as Sophie, who leads her hapless group of friends as they all navigate life and love in New York City.

You can watch the trailer below.

Kim Cattrall stars as ‘future Sophie’ – who narrates the whole story.

“It was hard to live in the moment in 2022,” Cattrall can be heard saying. “There was always someplace else you could be, someone else you could be with…”

The trailer then goes to show ‘young’ Sophie lamenting about some of her worst Tinder dates, but refusing to let her quest for true love be dampened down as she tells herself on the subway: “Today is the chapter of my next great love story.”

But while people are palpably excited for the new series, many are fearful that How I Met Your Father may have the same disappointing end as How I Met Your Mother.

Fans were left bitterly disappointed when Ted revealed in the How I Met Your Mother finale that the ‘Mother’ in question had been dead for six years, and the point of Ted telling the story to his kids was actually to explain that he was in love with Robin. The show concludes with him recreating the big romantic gesture he had made for Robin in the very first season – leaving fans fuming.

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: “me being excited for HIMYF because deep down I just want it to fill the void that HIMYM ending left.”

A second said: “As much I despise the ending of HIMYM the HIMYF trailer looks fun."

And a third agreed: “I didn't think I was going to watch this, but after seeing the trailer, I will give it a shot. It looks really good!!! Please have a better ending than #HIMYM #HIMYF."

While a fourth bitter fan chipped in: “You guys ruined #HIMYM for us with that ending. You better not disappoint us again. #HIMYF.”

Looks like How I Met Your Father has big shoes to fill…

HIMYF premieres on 18th January on Hulu.
