The beautiful thing about the Harry Potter films is that no matter how many times you rewatch it, there's always something new to discover.

One such easter egg from one of the opening scenes of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is a minor background detail that most fans haven't even noticed, despite having watched the film countless times.

You can catch the hidden detail when Harry first receives his letter from Hogwarts. Take a look at Aunt Petunia in the background:

One fan who did spot the hidden detail took to Reddit to share it with other Potterheads.

They wrote: "In Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s (Sorcerer’s) Stone, Aunt Petunia is visible in the background of this scene dyeing Dudley’s old clothes grey for Harry’s uniform. This is only ever mentioned in the book."

While Mr Dursley skims through his post, and Harry admires the Hogwarts envelope with his name on it, Petunia can be seen in the background mixing a pile of clothes around in a big pot.

In the original book, the Dursleys had originally planned on sending Harry to Stonewall High, rather than Dudley's prestigious Smeltings Academy.

For his school uniform, Aunt Petunia had dyed some of Dudley's old clothes grey for Harry to wear.

Thankfully, Harry's letter from Hogwarts came just in time, saving him from having to wear a uniform that looked like "elephant skin."

Harry Potter fans were shocked when the easter egg was pointed out to them, left wondering how they never picked up on it before.

One commented: "The amount of times I have seen this movie is crazy, and I’ve read the book once, absolutely loved it, and yet I didn’t even notice this. That’s actually really cool!! Just wish they kept Peeves in the film!"

"Remember when the movies were this true to the books? Good times" wrote another.

While a third added: "I always wondered what she was doing, I'd clearly forgotten that detail between reason the book and watching the film."

Others pointed out that Aunt Petunias work is actually mentioned in deleted scenes of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, which can be found in the film's extended edition.

And that isn't the only deleted scene of Aunt Petunias in the Harry Potter films, either.

Some Potterheads recently discovered another cut scene - this time from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One - that featured Harry and his Aunt Petunia have a particularly tender moment.

While this scene was cut from the final version of the films, it's a brand new addition, as we don’t see this interaction between Harry and his aunt in the books.
