Harry Potter star David Thewlis has brutal response to fans asking him to reprise role

Harry Potter star David Thewlis has delivered a very candid response to people asking him to reprise his role as the fan-favourite, Professor Remus Lupin.

Fans of the hit film franchise, which starred Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and a bunch of fellow A-listers over its eight-movie run, will no doubt remember Remus - AKA the half-blood wizard turned werewolf.

Despite the last Harry Potter film hitting cinemas way over a decade ago in 2011, it seems like fans can't shake their obsession with the 62-year-old possibly reprising his role, especially with the HBO series remake of the film which is set for a 2027 release.

Speaking to ScreenTime, Thewlis was asked if he had any inclination to return to his role - or even return to the Harry Potter franchise as a different character altogether.

"I feel like I'd be far too old to play my original character, and, no, I wouldn't want to go back into it," the actor explained, before noting: "I've had quite enough of that."

With a laugh, Thewlis continued: "I'm sick of talking about it, quite honestly."

Fans seemed more than understanding of Thewlis' stance, with one writing: "I don't blame him. If every conversation has that question, I'd be sick too. And this is coming from a fan."

"Man, I don’t blame him," penned a second, as a third chimed in: "Everyone should leave him alone about it!"

A fourth agreed: "Yeah, let the man move on. He gave us a great Lupin."

"Lol, well at least he’s honest," quipped a fifth, as another sympathised: "He's very friendly about it. But of course, he won't go back. It must be a very tiring question!"

And a final fan joked: "Honestly, that’s the most Remus Lupin thing he can do, though."

During the interview, Thewlis - who has also starred in The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and The Artful Dodger - shared that he enjoys chatting with young fans who connect with the cult-classic films.

"It is nice because with Harry Potter it's kids, and kids get very kind of impressed and very overawed, and it's very nice to make kids happy," he said.

Thewlis first played Remus in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which hit cinemas in 2004.

The decorated actor reprised his role in 2007's Order of the Phoenix, 2009's Half-Blood Prince, as well as the two-part Deathly Hallows movies, released in 2010 and 2011.

Much to many fans' dismay, Remus was killed in The Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
