Good Morning Britain Viewers Cringe At Richard Madeley's Essex Accent

Good Morning Britain Viewers Cringe At Richard Madeley's Essex Accent

Richard tried out the accent while talking about Southend-on-Sea.

Good Morning Britain viewers were not impressed at presenter Richard Madeley's take on an Essex accent this morning.

While discussing the decision to make Southend-on-Sea into a city - to honour the late MP Sir David Amess who had been campaigning for the change for years - Richard, who was actually born in Romford, attempted the accent.

You can watch the clip below:

"Richard I know you take issue with the fact it's called a seaside town," Susanna says.

"No I'm on the cusp of that I mean... it's Southend on estuary... it's the river init', you can see the other side of the estuary," said Richard, in his Essex accent.

"If you live in Essex, it's a constant argument we have with ourselves, is it by the sea or is it by the river."

But other GMB viewers were not impressed, with one tweeting: "Essex people really do not argue whether Southend is on the sea or an estuary... Also why is Richard putting a really bad Southern accent...cringe! #gmb."

While another said: "Does Richard Madeley come from Essex, how many more times do he have to impose that annoying irritating accent?#GMB."

Yikes!

Viewers were not happy during Monday's episode (

Richard was criticised during Monday's episode, after he made a comment about Kate Middleton's body.

The comment was made during a segment about the Earthshot Prize Awards - in which the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were in attendance over the weekend.

The ceremony is held to raise awareness of the impact of climate change, and awards five £1million prizes every year for people who have created incredible innovations aimed at tackling climate change.

After watching a video clip of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the awards, Richard made a comment about Kate's figure.

"She’s so slim isn’t she, Kate," he said, to which Susanna replied: "She is, isn’t she?"

"Tiny, tiny waist," Richard added, with Susanna commenting: "She looks absolutely terrific."

The conversation moved swiftly on, but GMB viewers were left unimpressed.

One asked: "Shouldn’t he be focused on what #EarthshotLondon2021 was about, not Kate Middleton’s waist line."
