At this point in our lives, we thought we knew our way around a tequila bottle, but now we've discovered that everything we thought we knew was a lie.
It turns out there has been a secret use for the Sierra Tequila lid the whole time (you know, the one that's shaped like a little mini sombrero)...
Yep, the fun little hat can actually be used to salt the rim of a shot glass. You can thank us later.

One Twitter user, Jack, broke the news on his feed, writing: "I was today years old when I realised the sombrero on top of the bottle of tequila was so you could salt your glass".

And it turns out it wasn't just him (and us) who were none the wiser.
"I thought it was just a cute sombrero to put on your pet rat or something," one person wrote in the comments.
While another added: "WHATTTTT NO THIS CHANGES THE ENTIRE GAME".
"I'm shook," penned another tequila fanatic.
We don't know how we survived for so long without this knowledge...

This isn't the only use for the tiny little sombrero lid.
According to the Sierra Tequila South Africa Facebook page, it turns out it can also be used to measure and pour a near perfect shot into your drink - be that the light or dark variety.
And that's not all: it can even be used to squeeze juice our of your lemon or lime if you're knocking up a cocktail. Genius.

Of course, putting the hat on your pet is still optional.
