Birds Eye Is Doing Rainbow Waffles To Brighten Up Your Breakfast
Our appetite for rainbow food seems to know no bounds. On Instagram alone, there are 135k posts tagged under #rainbowfood, and we've seen everything from rainbow cheese toasties to bagels and even rainbow sushi.
The latest brand to join the rainbow club is Birds Eye, which has released frozen mini rainbow waffles. Each waffle is a different (all-natural) colour, and are made out of vegetables. In addition to the classic potato, there is sweet potato, garden peas and beetroot.
Both vegan and gluten-free they also are made with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. They will be sold in Iceland and Ocado at £2.50.
Pete Johnson, Marketing Manager at Birds Eye, said: "Birds Eye Potato Waffles have been an iconic part of British teatimes since 1981 and kids and adults continue to love the taste.

"Birds Eye Rainbow Mini Waffles are a simple but magical mix of fluffy potato mash and vegetable goodness that will introduce more colour and dietary variety to the nation's plates. We are confident that everyone will love the taste. We've heard a rumour that unicorns love them already... in fact, 9 out of 10 unicorns prefer them."
In other important potato news, back in October last year Birds Eye released a sweet potato version of its classic waffles, and they seem to be continuing to develop new ways of making mash into tasty waffles. Just last week Iceland released hash brown fries and ASDA released bacon fries.
Although frozen food has historically had a reputation for being unhealthy, food brands and developers are trying to change that, especially considering the huge amounts of food that is wasted in homes every day.
For other ways of getting in your five a day without compromising on rainbow visuals, there are lots of recipes out there. You could try making a veggie rainbow flatbread pizza from Ali at Gimme Some Oven, or vegan gluten-free rainbow spring rolls from the Minimalist Baker, and perhaps even a rainbow salad from Kelly at The Pretty Bee. Whatever you go for, make it colourful.
