Whether you’re looking for some new running trainers or are simply in the market for a comfy everyday pair, it can be pretty overwhelming deciding which style or brand to opt for.

But a certain pair of Nike running trainers have been making waves online with shoppers calling them 'the comfiest shoes they've ever owned'.

The Nike Pegasus 40 Women's Road Running Shoes are available in black, a white and silver accented design, as well as a light pink option, on the Nike website. But if none of those styles are to your taste, you can also design your own bespoke pair, for an additional fee.

The OG kicks are priced at £119.95 ($150) whereas the fully customisable option — which allows you to choose everything from the colour of the sole, laces and knit upper, to whether you’d prefer the classic Nike swoosh or a more retro design — costs £144.99 ($185).

You’ll also find a range of fun colours and designs at the likes of ASOS, The Sports Edit and Sports Direct.

But do they live up to the hype? Well, it certainly seems so from the hundreds of positive reviews on Nike’s website and across social media.

What makes them so popular?

As you might expect, the more cushioned a trainer or running shoe is, the more comfortable it will be when you walk or run in them. Nike’s Pegasus 40s have two Zoom Air units – one at the front of the shoe and one at the heel – for a springier, bouncier step. Pair this with React foam in the middle and we can certainly understand why so many find them comfortable.

If you plan on working up a sweat while wearing these, the outer material of the trainer is made of a breathable mesh upper, allowing your feet to breathe.

The brand claims that the latest iteration of the popular Pegasus shoes are designed to feel like a 'welcoming, gentle hug'.

And given that the Pegasus line of Nike shoes first debuted back in 1983, there has been plenty of innovation since then.

In terms of the outer design, we can immediately see what makes them so popular with shoppers of all ages and genders. From the minimalist and clean lines to the breathable knit finish, they’ve got style and substance. So, whether you’ve been on the hunt for a pair of trainers that will go with a number of different outfits or are looking to upgrade your existing running trainers, you might want to give these a go.

They are also available in a fun range of colours and designs.

What are customers saying?

One happy customer took to the Nike website to gush: "These are the comfiest trainer I have ever worn, so great for a morning run or hike in the countryside. They have become my go to trainer."

Another customer remarked: "Best running shoes I've ever owned! They have a noticeable spring to them that makes it feel like you are running on air. I'm in my mid 40's but still run and this makes the impact so much better. I plan to purchase other colours as I can't see running in any other shoe!"

For those who are looking for a fashionable everyday pair, this review should convince you: "In addition to the comfort, they’re super cute! The design is flattering for any outfit you may have in mind. In fact, being that I mostly live in leggings, this is incredibly important. Overall, the Pegasus does exactly what it was designed to do; support you during your run, ensure your feet are well taken care of, and (my favourite) allow you the option for all day wear. You just truly can’t go wrong!"
