ASOS is being praised for showing a model with a scoliosis scar on a recent campaign.

The online clothing company is being applauded for its diverse representation, displaying an item of clothing on a model with a spinal fusion scar across her back.

People are calling the decision 'amazing' and are rushing to share their support for the retailer.

The NHS defines scoliosis as when 'the spine twists and curves to the side'.

Signs of scoliosis include but aren't limited to: a visibly curved spine, leaning to one side, uneven shoulders, one shoulder or hip sticking out, the ribs sticking out on one side and clothes not fitting well.

According to Scoliosis Association UK, 'the goals of surgery are to prevent your scoliosis getting larger and to correct the curvature as much as can be done safely'.

While it may not be the 'right option for everyone' with the condition, the site explains: "As a general rule, if your curve is around 45-50 degrees or more, your surgeon will talk to you about the possibility of surgery."

The procedure is known as 'spinal fusion'.

"Spinal fusion uses metal implants (screws, wires and/or hooks) that are attached to the vertebrae in your spine and then connected to a single rod or to two rods," the site explains. "During the operation, bone graft is placed over the implants."

"This is so wonderful. I love all the representation that is happening in fashion."

The implants and rods are then used to 'hold the spine in place until it can fuse itself', and after a period of 'about 12 months', the bone graft fuses with the 'existing bone in your spine' to form a 'solid column of bone in that area'.

And one woman with the spinal fusion scar can be seen on the ASOS website sporting a backless top.

The news has since made its rounds on Twitter with one user writing: "This is so so so amazing!!!!!"

A second echoed: "This is so wonderful. I love all the representation that is happening in fashion and dolls. This lovely model with a scar, the vitiligo barbies, it's brilliant."

"How cool is this?!" penned a third, "Scoliosis (spinal fusion) surgery scar representation on ASOS."

Some other individuals who have the same scar themselves also offered their thoughts on the campaign.

"I was scouted for modelling once but then turned away bc of my back - love to see this!!" revealed one.

Another added: "As someone with the same scar, love to see this representation!"

A final fan wrote: "Amazing ASOS - a model showing what looks to be her beautiful scoliosis surgery scar! I’m almost tempted to buy the top just to show off mine too!"

And customers can do exactly that.

The garment in question, titled 'Vans Flying V bralette in black and beige', is currently available for purchase on the site, and is even on sale for 40 per cent off at £18.

Guess that's one part of your summer wardrobe sorted.
