Guests left shocked after couple have awkward first kiss on their wedding day

Weddings guests couldn't believe their eyes

Guests have been left well and truly shocked after watching a couple have an extremely awkward first kiss on their wedding day.

It seems to be a universally-understood truth that first kisses are always slightly awkward.

From head placement and oxygen control to figuring out what on earth to do with your hands - it's clear we've all had our own blunders when it comes to the first time we ever locked lips.

And this was exactly the case for a pair of newlyweds' whose first-ever smooch was captured in all its glory on TLC's Virgin Diaries after they vowed not to have sex - or even kiss - before their special day.

The pair vowed not to have any sexual relations until their wedding day.

The kiss in question clearly left wedding guests stunned, with some even face-palming during the momentous occasion.

During the ceremony, the officiator can be heard telling the groom, Ryan: "I now declare you to be husband and wife.

"Ryan, you may kiss your bride."

Totally beside himself with excitement, the groom exclaims: "Really!" before pulling the veil over his wife Shanna's face.

The pair adoringly gaze into each other's eyes for a split second before things took a turn for saliva city.

Ryan grabs Shanna's face and, from the looks of it, seems to stick his tongue down her throat while onlookers couldn't help but look away in stitches of laughter.

They then embrace in a heartfelt hug as the crowd cheers them on - happy for the loving pair who were finally able to tie the knot and get it on after waiting so long.

While, to the naked eye, the kiss definitely looked like an intense game of tonsil tennis - the newlyweds have since claimed they have been practicing their smooching skills since their first passionate - albeit sloppy - attempt.

The pair have revealed they have since been practicing following their first kiss.

Ryan said: "I had never kissed a girl before I married Shanna and you know I wasn't really planning ahead, or thinking about what to do."

Shanna echoed her hubby, revealing: 'It was kinda hard for me because I hadn't really kissed anybody, so I didn't really know what I was doing. So when I went to first kiss him, I just went full force because I was, like, excited."

And this isn't the first time someone's first kiss has been captured on camera.

An Amish teenager had her first 'English' kiss on camera an episode of Return to Amish from 2021.

The footage saw Maureen share an intimate and unique moment with her crush, Daniel, which showed the pair opting for a slightly more alternative style of kissing.

Instead of locking lips, the pair simply stuck their tongues out and started going at it, with barely any lip contact in sight.

Effectively, imagine a French kiss but without lips.
