For many people, travelling is one of life's biggest pleasures - what with exploring new parts of the world, dining on local cuisine and meeting people from all over.

However, it's clear you've got to have your wits about when travelling and one flight attendant has shared exactly what she does to keep safe when staying in hotels.

The woman, CiCi, who goes by the handle @ciciinthesky online, took to TikTok to share with her 397.1k followers the absolutely terrifying reason why you should always leave a towel by hotel room door.

One flight attendant shared her safety tips when it comes to staying in a hotel room.

She began by telling viewers what she does as soon as she walks into the hotel room.

CiCi explained she props her door open to do her 'checks', continuing: "I check the closet, the shower and behind the curtains, check to make sure the phone works.

"After all that's clear shut the door and I make sure that this is closed."

She also told viewers to be sure to cover up the keyhole in the door and to use tissue to block the view if there was no cover as well as putting a 'privacy sign' on the door handle outside.

CiCi also put a washcloth towel in between the door latch before shutting it, to 'prevent anyone from using a tool to unlatch the security latch'.

CiCi warned travellers to put a towel in the door lock to prevent anyone from using a tool to unlatch the security latch.

Additionally, the jet-setter said she always puts her my bag 'right in front of the door' as well as leaving her TV on with the volume up, adding: "Not loud enough to disturb people just a normal volume I would watch TV on."

She concluded the rundown, noting: "Make sure you know where your fire exits are."

CiCi captioned the clip: "My military father raised me and my sisters to be situationally aware and vigilant where ever we are.

"I have raised my daughters the same way. We don't live in fear, we are cautious."

People have since rushed in to share their thoughts on the flight attendant's safety tips as well as share their own with one TikTok user writing: "Whenever I leave/return to my room I say 'Be right back!' or 'I’m back!' regardless if there’s anyone in the hall, gives the illusion I’m not alone."

A second advised: "Always check the window locks too. Once on a ground floor I discovered it to be unlocked."

"I always book as a couple even if I’m single, I add my brother’s name," revealed a third.

Another penned: "Traveling is becoming a horror movie!"

"Good idea for apartment living as well," praised a fifth while a sixth chimed in: "Excellent info!"

A final TikTok user echoed: "Thank you for sharing. Safety first!"
