Prince Louis sparks comparison to mum Kate Middleton as he makes his Commonwealth games debut
It was another royal first for Prince Louis this weekend as the youngest of the three Wales children joined his older siblings and parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Best known for stealing the spotlight at royal events, this time the eight-year-old prince drew attention from fans for another reason: just how much he looks like his mother, Kate Middleton, as a child.
Speaking on X, one royal watcher said: “Prince Louis reminds me very much of his mummy at around the same age,” referencing a photo previously shared publicly of Kate as a little girl.
It’s not the first time such comparisons have been made. When the royal family released photos in 2023 of Kate as a child during Christmas in 1983, fans chimed in about how much Louis resembles her, according to Hello! Magazine. "Omg what a gorgeous photo of baby Catherine. Louis is her twin. What a lovely surprise! Thank you for sharing," while another added "Adorable! Louis looks a lot like her."

The royal family took time out of their summer vacation to attend the games, taking in netball, judo, cycling and speaking with athletes from around the world.
Other royal watchers commented on the bond between Prince George, 13, and Louis. “The sweet bond between brothers was an added extra delight yesterday. You can tell Prince Louis adores his big brother,” said one user on X.
Sitting next to big brother and his sister Princess Charlotte, 11, while watching cycling, the youngest member of the family got up to his usual antics: He donnd a Beicio Cymru hat – which means Wales Cycling – bucket hat.
Louis, it appears, is a bit of an athlete in his own right. During their day at the games, the royal family met bronze-winning gymnasts Abigail and Emily Roper, with Kate telling them: “Louis, you’re perfecting your handstand at the moment,” reports The Telegraph.
“A bit,” he replied. “But Charlotte says I’m not very good.” He also shared that he recently competed in a sports day at his school and preferred the high jump.
As for his siblings? A proud Charlotte said she could successfully do a handstand while George told them he was "rubbish with anything that involves flexibility."
In many ways it felt much like a family outing.
Welsh TV presenter Gethin Jones asked Prince George, 13, Charlotte and Louis: “Would you like to see mum and dad on a tandem in the velodrome later?”
Prince William said: “We embarrass you enough as it is.”
It was the sibling’s first-ever royal engagement in Scotland, according to The Telegraph, and a nicely timed family outing before George starts school at Eton this fall.
The next Commonwealth Games take place in 2030 in Ahmedabad, India.
