Prince William's reaction to Andrew during final public appearance suddenly makes so much sense

The pair made their last royal appearance together at the Duchess of Kent's funeral last month (16 September)

Royal fans think the writing was already on the wall for Prince Andrew in an interaction with his nephew Prince William at his final public appearance.

Yesterday (30 October), Buckingham Palace confirmed they had started the process to remove Andrew's titles, and shed further light on the former Duke of York's future.

Following the announcement, many royal fans and critics alike rushed to find 'clues' from recent royal gatherings, which may, when looking back in retrospect, have hinted at the latest news surrounding Andrew.

One of which took place last month (16 September), when the Royal Family gathered at Westminster Cathedral to mourn the death of the Duchess of Kent, Katharine Lucy Mary Worsley, who died peacefully at the age of 92 some weeks prior (4 September).

One short clip shared to social media at the time appeared to show the former Duke of York saying something to William before laughing.

However, people online thought William looked very unimpressed, and it seemed like he didn't laugh in response or actually say anything back at all, just giving a brief nod.

Body language expert Judi James also told MailOnline that William's 'non-verbal responses' pointed towards a supposed degree of 'awkwardness' between the pair.

She said: "The Duke of York tries to engage his nephew in a good-humoured chat, and all William's non-verbal responses suggest awkwardness and a subliminal desire to reject the overtures, making this look like a very frosty transaction.

"William is at some pains to appear polite despite potentially feeling compromised here, but he is clearly made uncomfortable and is perhaps relieved when he can return to the more solemn facial expression of mourning."

Lip reader Jacqui Press also shared her thoughts on what Prince Andrew said to the other mourners after the service.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Press said that the exchanges appeared to include some basic pleasantries.

Among them were the achingly British 'aren't we lucky with the weather today', as well as the standard post-church comment: "It was a beautiful service."

Andrew could also be seen to exchange a few words with his sister, Princess Anne, before thanking the staff and going off in the direction of his car.

The lip reader claimed that the Princess Royal told her brother, 'let's walk this way', before Andrew turned to her later and said: "Shall [we] go that way and we can leave there?"

He may later have questioned: "Where is she? Oh, over there, is she coming?"

This came after the Sunday Times reported that William will ban Andrew from his coronation when he becomes king, and he also won't be allowed to attend any public or private events.

After yesterday's announcement, one social media user reshared the clip to X, along with the caption: "When Andrew made a big show of approaching Prince William during the Funeral of the Duchess of Kent, waiting the exact moment when the cameras will snap him with the Heir, I bet he did not foresee this would be his last public appearance alongside William and that not only will he lose his home but he would lose all his styles and Titles as well.

"But simply looking at William’s expression, you could tell he was thinking ahead. BP is in full damage control. I guess that heckling from the last engagement made them realise the problem is not going away."

They continued: "The comedy. 2 weeks ago, BP allowed Andrew to call the shot and make his own announcement where he was supposed to retain his titles and home.

"This should have been the initial announcement."

They rounded off: "The only thing we ask is that the palace follow through with their words and truly strip Andrew. I will applaud when it is complete."

Many others rushed to the comments to echo similar sentiments with a second X user agreeing: "William’s face here says it all!!"

Another theorised: "I think it was the last straw for Prince William and now we see the result - pushed the King into making this decision imo."

And a final X user added: "Tale of two different reactions to making small talk w Andy & the Fergs. It also tells who’s been willing to accommodate & who wasn’t.

"Today’s message: don’t mess with the Wales’s. Let the leaking to all Fergie’s media pals commence."
