Meghan Markle seems to have confirmed an age-old rumour about the British royal family - specifically her husband, the Duke of Sussex.
And it's all to do with his controversial culinary habits.
The Duchess of Sussex made an unexpected quip about Prince Harry during the latest series of her Netflix series With Love, Meghan, which dropped onto the streaming service last week on August 26th.

For those who need a reminder, the show sees Meghan invite friends and famous guests to her Montecito, California estate, where she shares cooking, gardening and hosting tips.
It debuted in April this year and quickly returned for a second instalment after being highly-watched by fans who wanted to get a glimpse of the mother-of-two's lifestyle.
For season two, Meghan welcomed a whole new round of famous faces onto the programme, including Chrissy Teigen, Tan France, David Chang, Jay Shetty, Christina Tosi, and Samin Nosrat.
But the moment that sparked conversation was not about her own food preferences, but when she shared a crumb of information about husband Prince Harry - in particular, the one food he 'refuses to eat'.

When chatting with José Andrés during the season finale, she told the Spanish-American chef: "Do you know who doesn't like lobster? My husband."
Making his thoughts clear, Andrés then jokingly replied: "And you married him anyway?"
And the reason why this is so significant is because it seems to confirm a longstanding rumour about the food the British royal family eat - and what they can't eat.

The theory is that seafood is usually avoided for the royals, due to its heightened risk of poisoning.
Grant Harrold, former royal butler to King Charles III, told The Mirror: "When dining, the Royal Family has to be careful with shellfish due to shellfish poisoning, due to their work schedules. It is a very sensible move to abandon having seafood when out and about on public duties."
He then went on to tell The Express: "It is a very sensible move to abandon having seafood when out and about on public duties. We don't want a member of the Royal Family having a serious reaction to food poisoning."
Adding: "Especially if [they] are on an overseas tour. Therefore, you will not normally find this on the royal menu."

However, it's unclear just how true or abided by this rule is, as we've actually seen the King himself tucking into seafood before at a public event.

Back in 2013 during an appearance at the Whitstable Oyster Festival, we saw the monarch tuck into the popular shellfish, eating it directly from the shell.
Meanwhile, a former royal chef, Darren McGrady, also attempted to shut down the myth recently, sharing a photo on Twitter of a royal menu from 1989.

The snap proved that the late Queen Elizabeth II actually enjoyed fish, and had dined on 'soufflé de homard' (with 'homard' being the French word for lobster) at Windsor Castle that year.
So, who knows, perhaps it's something that's been introduced more recently - we'll have to look out for more snippets of info from Meghan!
