Famous couples you didn’t know met online as Zohran Mamdani and wife Rama's Hinge history revealed
History was made this week after Zohran Mamdani became New York City's new mayor.
The 34-year-old democratic socialist, who is set to become the city’s most liberal mayor in generations after taking home the win against former governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa, is the Big Apple's first Muslim mayor, the first of South Asian heritage, and the first born in Africa.
And Mamdani isn't the only one who's made history following his election win, as his wife, Rama Duwaji, has now become New York’s first Gen Z First Lady.
The pair famously met on a dating app, and it's got people thinking - what other famous couples out there also met online?

Zohran Mamdani and Rama Duwaji
Duwaji, a 28-year-old Syrian-American illustrator and animator, married Mamdani in a City Hall ceremony earlier this year in February, but the pair met on the dating app Hinge in 2021.
"So there is still hope in those dating apps," Mamdani joked in an interview for The Bulwark back in June.
At this point, he had just been elected to the New York State Assembly.
When Mamdani made his historic win yesterday, he gave a special nod to Duwaji during his victory speech.
"To my incredible wife, Rama, hayati," he said, using the Arabic word for 'my life'. "There is no one I would rather have by my side in this moment, and in every moment."
Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner
While these two may have parted ways back in September 2023, they actually met via Instagram DMs, per Vogue.
Apparently, Joe sent Sophie a message after mutual friends mentioned they’d get along.
It wasn't long before they started chatting online and finally met up in person while he was touring in the UK, and it's clear that the chemistry was just as palpable face-to-face as it was online.
The pair share two daughters and are now sadly divorced.
Holland Taylor and Sarah Paulson
This pair are well-known for their sizeable age gap, but not many fans know that while they first met years earlier at a dinner party, it was Twitter that really brought them together.
After seeing each other’s tweets, the cute couple started DMing and reconnected romantically.
During a visit to Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in 2019, Sarah recalled how she met Holland.
"It's a long story. We met a very, very long time ago. I was with someone else and she was too," she said. "We sort of breezed by each other and then started following each other on Twitter… and then…"
That prompted a fellow guest to ask: "So Holland Taylor slid into your DMs?"
"She actually did!" Paulson said, with a laugh. "It's pretty great."
The pair have been together since 2015 and are still going strong!

The Jonas Brothers star and Hollywood A-lister also met online.
Back in 2016, Nick slid into Priyanka's Twitter DMs, writing: "I’m hearing from a few mutual friends that we should meet."
They kept in touch for months before meeting in person at the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscars after-party, where Nick reportedly dropped to one knee the moment he saw her.
After what can only be described as a whirlwind fairytale romance, the it-couple were married in a lavish, multi-day celebration in India in 2018.

And lastly, there's the Trainwreck star and her ex carpenter beau, Ben.
While the pair met on a dating app, Bumble, it's clear Ben wasn’t just another match, as he actually only knew who she was after they started chatting, which impressed her, per E! News.
They went public with their relationship in 2016, often sharing sweet posts on social media. However, they eventually split in 2017, with Amy later marrying the likes of award-winning chef Chris Fischer.
They have been married since February 2018 and have one son together.
