Actress Sarah Paulson has admitted that, while some fans may find her age-gap relationship with Two and a Half Men’s Holland Taylor ‘disconcerting’, living by ‘social norms is boring’.
The American Horror Story star, 50, and Holland, 82, have previously claimed to have a ‘wonderful’ partnership after ten years of romance.
The couple, who share a 32-year age difference, initially met in 2005, but didn’t start dating until Holland slid into Sarah’s Twitter DMs a decade later.
In 2016, the celebrity couple stepped out on a red carpet for the first time as an item, and have since appeared together at events like the 2018 Vanity Fair Oscar Party and the Primetime Emmy Awards.

In a new interview, Sarah has discussed whether she feels an ‘extra sense of responsibility to the LGBTQ+ community’ due to her visible relationship with the Legally Blonde favourite.

When asked if the pressure ever feels ‘like a burden’, she told the Spanish outlet El País: “I don’t see it as a burden, but I don’t always like feeling like my relationship belongs to someone else.
“It’s a strange thing. However, what makes me happy is that, in a way, through our relationship, we can set an example of two people who fell in love.”

The Ocean’s 8 star then referenced the generational gap that she and her girlfriend share, explaining some people may find it ‘very disconcerting’.
“That’s why I like to represent something so positive and unconventional, because living by predetermined social norms is boring, and why would you follow a path that isn’t yours?
“So yes, I like to represent something so positive. And at the same time, my relationship belongs to me,” she added.
Sarah has touched on the criticism their age-gap partnership has received in the past, complaining to The Guardian in 2020 that she couldn’t remember anyone ‘going nuts about Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, in terms of their age difference’.

She went on to say that she believes fans are perhaps ‘fascinated’ by her personal relationship ‘because it’s so not typical’.
“Except for if you look around at plenty of well-known or recognisable couples, when they’re heterosexual couples, it just runs rampant, and I don’t see anybody becoming obsessed by those relationships.”
Holland has admitted she ‘worries’ about the ‘generational difference’ between her and her long-time flame - telling Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM channel, Radio Andy, that the pair actually share ‘big differences’.

“We do have a wonderful resonance. We are very interested in the same kinds of things, and yet we share big differences,” Holland explained.
“A lot of the things that she is going through that are very emotionally important to her right now, I went through 30 years ago or 40 years ago.”
The Broadway actor also said that she and Sarah will probably never tie the knot.
She said they have never talked about marriage with ‘any interest’ and that it ‘doesn’t seem to mean to [them] what it means to a lot of people.'
