United States President Donald Trump has claimed he has received 'a very big' present from Iran, a country he's celebrated 'obliterating' for the past few weeks.

Speaking at the White House on Tuesday (24 March), the 79-year-old Republican could be heard saying: "They’re gonna make a deal.

"They did something yesterday that was amazing, actually. They gave us a present, and the present arrived today. It was a very big present, worth a tremendous amount of money."

While he didn't directly reveal what the present was, he did share that it was 'oil and gas related' and had something to do with the Strait of Hormuz.

"I'm not going to tell you what that present is, but it was a very significant prize, and they gave it to us," Trump added.

During the press briefing, he added that the gift was so big that it gave him confidence that he's negotiating with 'the right people' in Iran.

"That meant one thing to me," Trump said. "We’re dealing with the right people."

Elsewhere in the briefing, which saw the president swear in Markwayne Mullin as the new head of the Department of Homeland Security, Trump claimed that the Iranians had agreed 'they will never have a nuclear weapon'.

He also alleged that the US would soon have control 'of anything we want'.

"If you read the papers, you'd think we're tied, you'd think we're in a tough battle," he continued. "We are roaming free over Tehran."

"We can do whatever we want."

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Iran’s top military command recently declared that its armed forces will not stop 'until complete victory' is achieved.

Iran has also previously dubbed Trump's claims about negotiations as 'fake news'.

Earlier this week, on Monday (23 March), Trump claimed he'd called off military strikes against Iran following 'productive talks' with leaders in Tehran.

Sharing the announcement on Truth Social he wrote in all-caps: "I AM PLEASED TO REPORT THAT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND THE COUNTRY OF IRAN, HAVE HAD, OVER THE LAST TWO DAYS, VERY GOOD AND PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS REGARDING A COMPLETE AND TOTAL RESOLUTION OF OUR HOSTILITIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST."

Trump continued: "BASED ON THE TENOR AND TONE OF THESE IN DEPTH, DETAILED, AND CONSTRUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS, WHICH WILL CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, I HAVE INSTRUCTED THE DEPARTMENT OF WAR TO POSTPONE ANY AND ALL MILITARY STRIKES AGAINST IRANIAN POWER PLANTS AND ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE FOR A FIVE DAY PERIOD, SUBJECT TO THE SUCCESS OF THE ONGOING MEETINGS AND DISCUSSIONS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!"

Tyla has reached out to the White House for comment.
