Someone has made what they've dubbed a 'remarkably dangerous' point about Donald Trump after his own claims he was 'sabotaged' at the United Nations.

Earlier this week, on Tuesday (23 September), the 79-year-old Republican leader and his wife, Melania, suffered quite the mishap when the escalator they walked on stopped working almost as soon as they stepped onto it.

That, on top of having issues with his teleprompter and the sound during the United Nations General Assembly, led Trump to claim he had been a victim of a 'triple sabotage' with many of his supporters and fellow MAGA heads rushing to social media to hit out over the ordeal.

'Remarkably dangerous'

One X user slammed: "Watching it again - this was remarkably dangerous. If someone in the building wanted Trump assassinated, this would have been a great way to freeze him.

"The UN needs to go. PNG the diplomats, seize the property, turn it into a new Trump hotel."

"The fact that his security didn’t cover him without hesitation just shows how vulnerable he is," hit out a second before declaring: "This was most certainly on purpose and a clear indication that they will stop at nothing to thwart his work."

And a third chimed in: "Had the same thought. Someone should get jail time for this stunt. Probably dozens of people. And if they aren’t US citizens, they should be summarily deported."

Others, however, weren't so sure.

"Well. All they did was become stairs. It’s not an assassination attempt every time he uses stairs," pointed out a fourth.

Another agreed: "He's got two feet that work, he can walk up the stairs."

And a final X user commented: "You realise they found out it was someone from their own team that accidentally hit the button. Oh and before you say it, the UN is not responsible for setting up the teleprompters, as everyone’s would be different. That’s the team of the speaker."

Trump's response

After the UN address, Trump took to Truth Social, to air his true feelings on the matter, calling the events a 'real disgrace' and 'absolutely sabotage'.

"First, the escalator going up to the Main Speaking Floor came to a screeching halt. It stopped on a dime. It’s amazing that Melania and I didn’t fall forward onto the sharp edges of these steel steps, face-first," he wrote.

"Then, as I stood before a Television crowd of millions of people all over the World, and important Leaders in the Hall, my teleprompter didn’t work. It was stone cold dark."

The third 'sinister' event that Trump claimed took place was that the 'sound was off' so people in the hall couldn’t hear him.

"World Leaders, unless they used the interpreters’ earpieces, couldn’t hear a thing," he alleged.

"The first person I saw at the conclusion of the speech was Melania, who was sitting right up front. I said, 'How did I do?' And she said, 'I couldn’t hear a word you said.'

"This wasn’t a coincidence; this was triple sabotage at the UN. They ought to be ashamed of themselves."

The Republican confessed he would be sending a letter to the Secretary General, demanding an immediate investigation into the events of the day.

He added that all security tapes from the escalator should be saved, especially the emergency stop button, and that the Secret Service is involved.

The UN's response

The UN has since responded to Trump’s allegations, claiming the escalator likely stopped because of a White House videographer who ‘accidentally triggered a safety mechanism’.

Stephane Dujarric, a spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, said: “The safety mechanism is designed to prevent people or objects from accidentally being caught and stuck in or pulled into the gearing.

"The videographer may have inadvertently triggered the safety function."

Tyla has previously contacted the White House for comment.
