Melania Trump’s response to husband Donald’s comments about Putin leaves people shocked

Trump has been working on brokering a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine since he became president in January

US President Donald Trump has spoken about his wife, First Lady Melania Trump's reaction when he speaks about Russian president, Vladimir Putin, and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

While discussing attempts to reach a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, Trump explained how Melania has in the past responded to his comments about the situation.

The US president appears to be growing frustrated over a lack of ceasefire between the two countries, which he has been working on since becoming president for the second time in January.

Speaking during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in the Oval Office on Monday (July 14), Trump explained: "I go home, I tell the first lady, 'You know, I spoke to Vladimir today. We had a wonderful conversation.' And she said, 'Oh really? Another city was just hit.'"

Meanwhile, recalling a similar story at the White House State Dining Room later that day, he said: "I'd get home, I'd say, 'First lady, I had the most wonderful talk with Vladimir. I think we're finished.' And then I'll turn on the television, or she'll say to me one time, 'Wow, that's strange because they just bombed a nursing home.'"

Trump recently threatened to act against Russia with tariffs if a peace deal with Ukraine isn't agreed soon.

During the meeting with Rutte, Trump explained: "We're going to be doing secondary tariffs if we don't have a deal in 50 days. It's very simple, and they'll be at 100 percent."

Trump also said: “I’m disappointed in President Putin because I thought we would have had a deal two months ago, but it doesn’t seem to get there."

Back in March, Trump admitted he was 'p****d off' after he had been unable to secure a deal.

Trump said: "If Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia’s fault, which it might not be, but if I think it was Russia’s fault, I am going to put secondary tariffs on oil, on all oil coming out of Russia.

"That would be that if you buy oil from Russia, you can’t do business in the United States. There will be a 25% tariff on all oil, a 25 to 50-point tariff on all oil."

During his election campaign, Trump claimed that he could end the war in Ukraine in '24 hours' - a claim he recently admitted was a little 'sarcastic.'
