Nicki Minaj is facing fresh backlash after voicing support for Donald Trump's anti-trans policies, with fans pointing out the LGBTQ+ community that helped make her a superstar.
The rapper appeared at a Republican rally in Port Huron, Michigan, on Sunday (25 October), where she threw her support behind the US president ahead of the country's midterm elections with a series of controversial comments about transgender children.
Speaking to the crowd, Minaj, 43, praised right-wing leader Trump, claiming he'd transformed the atmosphere in the country.
"I am so honoured to be working with this president. He represents resilience," she gushed. "You know, so many people were maybe giving up a little bit, a little bit hopeless. And since he's come back, he's changed the energy of our country.

And he's given us a future to look forward to, a brighter future for us and our children, so let's make some noise for this great man. I love him so much."

The 'Moment 4 Life' star then turned her attention to transgender children, saying: "And we're not going to give up, because we want our children to grow up in a place where we can be proud of. We don't want our children to be bombarded with sex changes, right?
"We don't want that for our children. We want people to leave the children alone, leave them out of it, right?"
Minaj concluded her speech by reaffirming her allegiance to Trump, telling him: "So President Trump, it is an honour to stand with you every single time. And I will continue to support you forever and ever. If you run again, I will support you again."
Immediately, a number of heartbroken fans publicly questioned how Minaj went from being a headstrong ally for the LGBTQ+ community, to aligning herself with a president whose administration has pursued restrictions on transgender rights.
For years, Minaj has enjoyed a particularly devoted following among gay men and other queer listeners, many of whom have embraced her theatrical aesthetic, unapologetic confidence and boundary-pushing approach to pop and rap.

Now, fans who have long celebrated the rapper's music, bold self-expression and influence on LGBTQ+ pop culture have slammed the latest development in Minaj's views.
One person wrote on social media: "Nicki Minaj built a career with support from LGBTQ+ fans. Now she's standing beside Trump pushing anti-trans rhetoric about 'protecting children.'"
Another commented: "Nicki Minaj supporting Trump and his campaign to strip trans rights... and yet half of her stans are queer."
As a third continued: "Nicki Minaj preaching 'let boys be boys' is disgusting. Her career was embraced by gay, effeminate men, and the LGBT community, including trans and poc who helped elevate her to stardom. To turn around and treat those same people like garbage? Embarrassed I was even a fan."
Others expressed disbelief at what they see as a significant departure from the artist they once admired.

"Nicki being a transphobe was not on my bingo card," another person penned, pointing to the many fans who embrace gender-nonconforming fashion and self-expression.
Another added: "Man this really sucks! Especially as a queer person that loved her self expression during her earlier career."
This isn't the first time Minaj's political allegiances have surprised fans.
The Trinidad and Tobago-born rapper previously criticised aspects of Trump's immigration policies during his first term in 2017, including the separation of children from their parents at the US-Mexico border.
In January 2026, however, she appeared alongside Trump at an event promoting his Gold Card immigration programme, which offers eligible applicants a route to US residency and citizenship.

Minaj also drew attention after revealing that Trump had given her a Gold Card, prompting questions from fans about the apparent contrast between her earlier criticism of his immigration policies and her more recent support.
The rapper subsequently described herself as the president's 'number one fan', making clear that her allegiance was no passing social media moment.
Now, her appearance at the Michigan rally has added another chapter to that increasingly public political relationship.
Wearing a gold-coloured Gucci suit, Minaj travelled to this weekend's event aboard Air Force One before joining Trump on stage to encourage voters to support Republican candidates.

The Republican frontman, 80, heaped praise onto the musician right back following her appearance, making a comment about her figure before inviting her to address the crowd.
"She never looked more beautiful," he said as she left the stage, adding: "She gets it. She's smart."
Tyla contacted Minaj's representatives for comment.
