Donald Trump has revoked Kamala Harris’ Secret Service protection

The news comes despite former President Joe Biden quietly extending it before exiting office

US President Donald Trump has terminated Secret Service protection for former Democratic ticket and ex-Vice President Kamala Harris and a former national security adviser whose home was raided earlier this month.

Due to her former position in the White House, Harris, 60, was entitled under law to receive six months of this extra security after leaving office in January, which was due to expire in July, as per the BBC.

Her protection, however, was extended for another year by 79-year-old Trump’s Democratic predecessor, Joe Biden, 82, but has since been revoked by the Republican.

The discontinuation of the politician’s security detail comes just before she embarks on a national tour to promote her new book, 107 Days - a memoir detailing her unsuccessful 2024 presidential campaign.

A letter was sent to Harris, informing her that she would no longer have access to members of the Secret Service from 1 September.

The letter read: “You are hereby authorised to discontinue any security-related procedures previously authorised by Executive Memorandum, beyond those required by law, for the following individual, effective September 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris.”

A senior advisor to Harris has since confirmed the discontinuation to NBC News, saying: "The vice president is grateful to the United States Secret Service for their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to safety.”

The BBC reported that she will lose agents assigned to protect her and her property in Los Angeles, as well as proactive threat intelligence carried out to identify and pre-empt any potential threats.

Her husband, Doug Emhoff, had his own protections end on 1 July at the conclusion of the legally mandated period, the outlet reported.

John Bolton, former national security advisor, has also seen the privilege of Secret Service protection come to an end.

The announcement comes just days after the 76-year-old was called a ‘real sort of low life’ by Trump after he learned Bolton’s home in Maryland had been raided by FBI agents.

It’s understood that the Bolton raid was part of a broader investigation into allegations that he used a private email server to send ‘highly sensitive’ classified information.

Earlier this year, the president also revoked protection for Hunter Biden, 55, and Ashley Biden, 44, the children of the 46th POTUS.

At the time, Trump said: “Hunter Biden has had Secret Service protection for an extended period of time, all paid for by the United States Taxpayer.

“There are as many as 18 people on this Detail, which is ridiculous!”

He added that Ashley, who had ‘13 agents’ had also been ‘taken off the list’, despite her father extending protection for his adult children through July 2025 via an executive order.
