US President Donald Trump has been accused of ‘lying’ after abruptly leaving a public event, with many claiming he wasn’t telling the truth about his excuse.

Trump had been invited to deliver a speech to more than 1,000 graduating cadets of the US Military Academy at West Point in New York.

“Instead of stock options … you chose honor and you chose sacrifice,” he told them.

“Instead of business suits and dress shoes, you chose muddy boots and fatigues and keeping yourselves in shape - because West Point cadets don’t just have the brightest minds, you also have the bravest hearts and the noblest souls.”

But Trump's morning address, which lasted for over an hour, also delivered a few curveballs, with topics also including the likes of golf, Al Capone and even ‘trophy wives’.

No, seriously.

Discussing real estate developer William Levitt, the president said: “He was a first of the really, really big home builders, and he became very rich, a very rich man, and then he decided to sell.

“And he sold his company, and he had nothing to do. He ended up getting a divorce, found a new wife. Could you say a trophy wife? I guess we can say a trophy wife. It didn't work out too well, but it doesn't – that doesn't work out too well, I must tell ya. A lot of trophy wives.”

But the biggest bombshell arguably came right at the end of his appearance, departing suddenly after the speech – in turn breaking the tradition of his predecessors, who have historically taken time to shake the graduates’ hands on stage.

Trump claims he had to go ‘deal with’ Russia and China.

However, some people have questioned whether or not he was telling the truth, amid claims he went golfing immediately after.

Posting an undated video of Trump riding a golf cart on a course, one X user wrote: “Holy s**t. Trump lied to cadets at West Point saying he had to leave abruptly and couldn’t shake their hands because he had to deal with China and Russia. The motherf**ker went golfing.”

According to Indy100, Trump left the ceremony ‘before noon and flew to the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.'

It had also been previously reported that he planned to spend the Memorial Day weekend in Bedminster after arriving on Friday evening, with UPI saying he returned to Washington yesterday.
