Donald Trump has sparked backlash for a comment he made about women during a Pennsylvania rally, while talking about the UFC.
It’s no secret that the 80-year-old US President is a fan of the world's premier mixed martial arts organisation, having held his very own fight night on the lawn of the White House earlier this month.
On Tuesday (23 June), the Republican leader held a public address at the Mack Trucks facility in Macungie, Pennsylvania, where his speech turned to men’s sports, specifically UFC.
In a clip that’s been widely circulated on social media, Trump says, “And you’re fighting the toughest people on Earth. I mean, these are the strongest, toughest men on Earth.”

He then bizarrely added, “No women in the crowd, which is nice. But these are the toughest men on Earth, and it’s tremendous pressure.”
The comment was especially awkward, considering you could see at least one woman in the background of the video as he issued the remarks.
Reacting on social media, one X user brutally wrote: “Spoken like the true misogynist that Trump is!” while a second added, “Where to start? Misogyny galore.”
A third chimed in with: “Does he not know that UFC has women?!”
While a fourth also questioned: “Did anyone besides me see the woman in the background that looked so uncomfortable from this remark!? Well I did! God bless her!”
“Does he not know they have a women’s division too?” asked a fifth, while a sixth quipped: “Except there are plenty of women fighting in the UFC lmaooo, this man’s brain is cooked.”

Meanwhile, over on Reddit, someone else wrote: “He said ‘no women in the crowd, which was nice’. You can't make this s*** up, this guy is out of his mind.”
As reported by Mother Jones, UFC cards for major events nearly always feature women, apart from the White House’s Freedom 250 event.
Despite UFC’s history of promoting talented women, the event at the Presidential Residence failed to include a single woman.
The publication also outlines that MMA is one of the few sports in which women appear on the same cards as men and are actually not subject to different rules.
Addressing the lack of women at Trump’s event, UFC President Dana White previously said: “We did try to make a women’s fight. We couldn’t get it done,” reports Yahoo! Sport.
Tyla has contacted the White House for comment.
