A theory has been sparked over the identity of the 'DoorDash grandma' who appeared in the White House's latest social media content.

On Monday (13 April), the US president, 79, featured in a video of a driver from the delivery app delivering to the presidential residence for the first time ever, to promote his initiative to end taxes on tips.

In the clip, which was aired ahead of a White House press conference and shared on social media, a woman wearing a red 'DoorDash Grandma' shirt walks up to the door of the Oval Office with two bags of McDonald's and tells Trump: "I have your DoorDash order for you, Mr. President."

Trump responded: "Hello. Nice to see you. Look at this!" He then looked towards a group of nearby reporters and added: "This doesn’t look staged, does it?"

The president told the delivery driver: "The reason for this is the fact that I heard you picked up an extra $11,000 (£8,100) because the tax bill was so big, the refund was the biggest you've ever had. Is that correct?"

She explained: "Yeah, I saved over $11,000," before Trump handed her a $100 bill in the clip, telling her she's a 'great supporter'.

He went on to say: "You're really nice. Would you like to do a little news conference with me with these people? These are not the nicest people; they're not nice like you."

As per USA Today, at one point, Trump asked the driver: "Do you think that men should play in women's sports?"

The woman responded: "I really don't have an opinion on that. I'm here about no tax on tips."

He also asked whether she voted for him, to which she responded: "Um, maybe."

The woman in question has since been identified as Sharon Simmons - a grandmother of 10 from Arkansas.

DoorDash shared a press release explaining that she started dashing in 2022 to earn income while keeping control of her schedule, and since then, she’s completed more than 14,000 deliveries.

As per MailOnline, this was to help pay for her husband's cancer treatment.

However, social media users were surprised that they recognised Simmons from somewhere before, claiming that she appeared in Congress to support Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill.

The publication reports that Simmons testified before Congress in support of the tax on tips initiative.

She reportedly appeared in a video shared by Republican David Kustoff, a US representative for Tennessee's 8th Congressional District, during a public hearing in Nevada last year.

One user claimed: "Sharon Simmons is a MAGA-aligned Trump supporter. She's not just a random DoorDash driver picked for a photo op - she's been actively featured in pro-Trump events and Republican-led congressional hearings."

A second wrote: "It appears that Trump’s DoorDash driver is a Trump supporter from Nevada. Interesting that she mysteriously ends up at the White House."

And a third penned: "Now it all makes sense, y’all. She’s a MAGA prop. Here’s DoorDash Granny at a Nevada hearing for the Big Beautiful Bill last year."

Someone else said: "If you thought the DoorDash McDonald’s delivery to the White House today featured a random 'authentic grandma,' it wasn’t - the same woman, Sharon Simmons, previously appeared at an August 2025 Nevada hearing praising the One Big Beautiful Bill."

White House Spokesman Kush Desai said: "Sharon Simmons is one of tens of millions of Americans who are benefitting from President Trump’s signature provisions in the Working Families Tax Cuts: no tax on tips, overtime, or Social Security. Everyday Americans like Sharon are seeing thousands of dollars in tax relief because of the simple fact that President Trump keeps his promises."
