Donald Trump's 'Doomsday Plane' has been seen heading to Washington DC, sparking concern amid the ongoing global tensions.

If you're unfamiliar, the Boeing E-4B Nightwatch, more commonly known as the 'Doomsday plane,' is a militarised version of a Boeing 747-200, with the intention of providing maximum protection to US leadership in times of emergency.

As per Live and Let's Fly, this plane is 'one of the most specialised and hardened aircrafts in the US military inventory and is designed to serve as a command post for the President of the United States, the Secretary of Defence, and senior military leadership during a catastrophic emergency that disables ground-based command and control systems'.

On top of that, the aircraft is believed to be hardened against electromagnetic pulse effects and designed to withstand nearby nuclear detonation, as reported by Aviation A2Z.

So, understandably, hearing that it's been on the move isn't exactly making people feel hopeful - especially given the current worldwide political tensions involving the US, Venezuela and Greenland.

As reported by MailOnline, flight tracking websites showed that the plane departing Omaha, Nebraska and then headed eastward before landing at Camp Springs, just outside of Washington DC on Tuesday evening (6 January).

However, don't panic yet as this isn't actually that unusual - it's not the first time the aircraft has moved around the country and trips to the US capital can simply be routine operations or training exercises.

Or, they can signal heightened readiness for national emergencies, but as we say officials have not yet confirmed the reason for the flight.

We saw the 'Doomsday plane' in June of last year, when it circled over Virginia and North Carolina, before heading to Washington DC.

Reacting to the new reports, one Twitter user penned: "That’s… not the kind of plane you wanna see up there."

While a second added: "This is questionable to say the least. Interesting timing."

And a third and fourth wrote: "Why are we going into WW3 again" and "Brother it’s been barely over a week of 2026 wtf."

However, others reassured: "Maybe it’s just going for a test drive" and "Isn't this plane in the air around the clock".

Meanwhile, someone else claimed: "It's tied to Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth's visit to LA for defence-related events and meetings."

The sighting comes just after Trump launched strikes on Venezuela and kidnapped its leader Nicolas Maduro, accusing him of 'narco-terrorism,' to which he has pleaded 'not guilty'.

Trump has also been vocal about his plans to 'take Greenland', despite warnings it could mean the end of NATO.

The POTUS claimed this week: "I think that Greenland is very important for the national security of the United States, Europe, and other parts of the free world."

However, if Trump did go ahead, the US would be acting against a fellow NATO member by going against Denmark, and that would put the alliance into uncharted territory.
