Trump reveals new renovation idea for 137-year-old building sparking major concern

The US President, 79, has been brainstorming up a makeover for yet another building

Just when everyone seems to have moved on from the whole White House East Wing debacle, Trump has revealed a brand new renovation plan - and it's gone down as well as you'd expect.

For those who missed it, the US President, 79, faced significant backlash last month after he demolished the East Wing of the White House to make way for his swanky new $300 million ballroom.

Despite previously insisting that the entire section of the building wouldn't be torn down, the Republican leader seemingly made a U-turn and explained that, in the end, the plan changed, and he decided to proceed.

Speaking from the Oval Office on 22 October, he said: "We determined that, after really a tremendous amount of study with some of the best architects in the world, we determined that really knocking it down, trying to use a little section - you know, the East Wing, was not much, rather than allowing that to hurt a very expensive, beautiful building.

"In order to do it properly, we had to take down the existing structure."

And now, as we say, the President has found himself in hot water again over his idea to give the Eisenhower Executive Office Building (EEOB) a makeover.

If you're unfamiliar, the building in question was built in 1888 and is located next to the West Wing and houses the majority of offices for White House staff.

In an interview with Fox News' Laura Ingraham yesterday (12 November), Trump explained his vision for the historic office space.

The journalist asked: “Is the Executive Office building colour going to be changed? I heard a rumour of that," to which Trump responded: “So, you know it was always considered an ugly building. But it’s actually one of the most beautiful buildings ever built.”

The world leader showed Ingraham before-and-after images of what it would be like if the plan went ahead, which is yet to be confirmed as of now.

Currently, the EEOB is a light greyish colour, but Trump wants it to be painted a bright white colour all over.

He showed the camera and said: "Look at that. How beautiful that is with a coat of paint."

Raising a valid concern, Ingraham asked Trump if he was worried it would just look 'like a big white blob,' to which he argued it 'brings out all the details'.

"They used greystone - grey is for funerals. Look at it now, how beautiful that is," he added, “I don’t even know if I’m going to do it yet. I’m getting costs, I’m getting bids right now from painters, and we’ll see. It would be a great addition to Washington."

However, as we say, not everyone has been pleased with the potential new look of the building, with some taking to social media to share their thoughts.

One Twitter user furiously penned: "Built in 1888, the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, made of granite with a slate mansard roof, has been designated a national historic landmark.

"Trump told Laura Ingraham in an interview that the gray is 'ugly' and he wants to paint it white-paint granite. MAKE IT STOP!"

A second penned: "He better not touch the Eisenhower Executive Office Building!"

While a third agreed: "NO! Someone needs to stop him this time. The East Wing is gone because of him and now he’s planning of messing with the EEOB!"

And a fourth questioned: "Hold up he’s about to paint the raw stone of the EEOB?!?!?!"

A White House spokesperson said: "President Trump is making the White House beautiful and giving it the glory it deserves. Only people with a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome would find a problem with that."
