Donald Trump's unusual description of Barron has people raising sad point

A series of controversial comments made by Donald Trump about his youngest son resurfaced this week following Father's Day.

They were originally made last month during an East Room ceremony, which served to recognise military mothers and their families.

While giving a speech, the US President turned his attention to his own wife, Melania, with whom he shares his 20-year-old son, Barron.

"Most importantly, and most importantly to her, she's done an incredible job as First Lady," Trump gushed at the time. "She's an incredible mom."

Focusing on Barron - the youngest of his five children - he added: "She has a little boy who's quite tall. He's a little boy to us, but he's quite tall, right?"

Trump seemed to be making light of Barron's enormous 6'2" height.

"And his great parent," he continued, looking to Melania again. "She takes great care of him, thank you."

The remarks didn't go unnoticed by a number of Trump's critics, who suggested how Barron might feel to hear his father describe him as predominantly his mother's son.

"Yes, the distancing is quite strange. Imagine how his son must feel, hearing this," one X user wrote.

A second joked: "Nothing screams proud dad on Father’s Day like can’t recall your son’s name."

A third continued: "I still can’t believe y'all elected this thing."

Jumping to the right-wing leader's defence, one fan wrote: "Y’all got TDS ['Trump Derangement Syndrome']; he is obviously describing his son."

Another claimed: "He’s literally making a joke. You’ve got to be kidding."

"Maybe he’s just giving credit where credit is due," a third insisted. "If he took credit, you’d have a problem with that too!"

This is far from the first time that Trump has focused heavily on Melania's influence while discussing the child they share.

During a Congressional Ball last December, following the First Lady's introduction of her 2026 legislative initiative, Trump told guests: "She loves children. She's got a wonderful boy. And she's very proud of her boy."

Aside from Barron, Trump also shares four older children with previous partners.

From his marriage to Ivana, he shares Donald 'Don' Jr, Ivanka and Eric Trump. He also has a daughter, Tiffany, from his relationship with his second wife, Marla Maples, whom he had an affair with while married to Ivana.
