New details about Donald Trump’s injuries emerge after he was rushed to hospital following attempted assassination

A new book details the immediate aftermath after Thomas Matthew Crooks fired shots at Donald Trump

Additional details about Donald Trump’s injuries have emerged a year after he was rushed to hospital following an attempted assassination.

Trump was injured while speaking on stage at a campaign rally near Butler, Pennsylvania on 13 July, 2024, when Thomas Matthew Crooks fired at him from the roof of a building approximately 100 yards away.

The 20-year-old fired eight shots, killing one audience member and critically injuring two more.

Trump was seen clasping his ear and taking cover behind his lectern after being shot at, as Secret Service agents shielded him until Crooks was shot and killed.

Images of the immediate aftermath of Trump with blood on his face and ear, pumping his fist went viral as news of the attempted assassination spread.

The attempted assassination last year marked a turning point for the Trump campaign, as he gained further support and praise, including from Amazon mogul Jeff Bezos and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

The latter said seeing Trump’s immediate fist pump after getting shot was ‘one of the most badass things I’ve ever seen in my life’.

July 13 also marked a new beginning in the former friendship between Trump and Elon Musk, as the Tesla co-founder endorsed him that same day, writing on X: “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery.”

Now, a new book details what happened when Trump was rushed to hospital.

The US President, who was campaigning to be re-elected for his second term at the time of the shooting, was bleeding so much that top aides thought he had been shot ‘four or five’ times.

An excerpt from the book 2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America has been published in The Washington Post and reads: "Trump was sitting up in bed, still wearing his suit. A bandage covered his ear. There was blood everywhere."

"It was bleeding like a b***h," Trump later recalled in an interview with the book’s authors. "They thought I had four or five bullets in me because there was so much blood."

Trump was referring to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, director of communications Steven Cheung, and deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino.

The trio eventually realised Trump was not as seriously hurt as they imagined because 'he started making jokes' in his hospital bed, the book explains.

Trump sustained a gunshot wound to the right ear and was released from hospital later the same day.

He made his first public appearance at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee two days after the assassination attempt, wearing a large bandage on his injured ear.
