Don't worry, it's not your crappy wifi, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp have all gone down for thousands of users across the globe.

The internet just descends into chaos when the social media holy trinity go down, doesn't it?

Indeed, according to DownDetector, over 23,000 people reported issues with Facebook and over 70,000 with Instagram at around 6.00pm this evening, and in usual fashion, social media users flocked to Twitter in their droves to see if anyone else had noticed the apps wasn't working.

All Meta apps appear to have been affected by the outage, including Facebook, Instagram, Threads and WhatsApp.

Some users have reported being hit with an error message reading 'We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can' when they try and access the sites.

"Me running to Twitter to see if everyone else’s Facebook is down or if it’s my internet," joked one Twitter user.

Another quipped: "Elon messing up Facebook and Instagram so everyone can come back to Twitter."

Meanwhile, a third chimed in: "Whatsapp, Facebook & Instagram are down again for the 100th time this year," as a fourth added: "Facebook is down now i can’t get to aimlessly scroll on marketplace."

Meta has since issued a statement on the 'technical issue', writing: "We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps.

"We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience."

The last major Meta outage happened back in March and saw Facebook users claiming they'd been locked out of their accounts and Instagram users struggling to refresh their feeds.

At the time, the company said: "We are aware of an issue impacting Facebook Login. Our engineering teams are actively looking to resolve the issue as quickly as possible," later clarifying that it was 'recovering from an earlier outage impacting Facebook Login, and services are in the process of being restored'.
