Given how chronically online many of us are, it's always quite the jolt whenever one of our most-used social media platforms suddenly goes dark.

And that's been exactly the case for X, formerly Twitter, as thousands of users have reported problems using the app earlier this morning (18 November).

Cloudflare is also down, with many rushing to the tracking website Down Detector, which monitors outages, to log reports of issues with both platforms.

Affected users saw a message stating there was an 'internal server error on Cloudflare’s network'. It also asked users to 'please try again in a few minutes'.

With X down, people have also since rushed to Reddit to share their reactions, with one user asking: "Cloudflare down? Twitter etc isn't working?"

"I got the same issue here!" commented another.

And a third chimed in: "I came here specifically to see if this was the case lol. I never realised just how much stuff uses Cloudflare until things are down! I wonder what caused it!"

"Yep, thought it was just my network!" revealed another.

And a final Redditer echoed: "Phew thought I got suspended!

For those not in the know, Cloudflare is an internet infrastructure that offers many of the core technologies that power our everyday online experiences.

Such infrastructure includes tools that protect websites from cyber attacks and ensure that they stay online amid heavy traffic, for instance.

"Cloudflare is aware of, and investigating an issue which potentially impacts multiple customers," Cloudflare has said in a new update. "Further detail will be provided as more information becomes available."

The outages started around 11.30am UK time.

However, at that time, some websites appeared to be loading when they were refreshed. Cloudflare then responded speedily to the issues and posted the update acknowledging the issue around 15 minutes later.

X does seem to be back up and running for some users with one writing: "Is Twitter down?? or is it just mine that isn't working."

"X is down, Cloudflare is down. Pack up people, day is over," joked a second.

A third added: "Seems like Cloudflare is having some troubles. Lost access to Twitter for a bit and other sites are currently inaccessible."

"Guess my Twitter was down," lamented another and a final X user echoed: "Not only is Twitter down, but even the site I use to check if Twitter is down is down. Tweeting into the void rn."

Tyla has also reached out to X for comment.
