Boots Launches New In-Store Recycling Scheme Where You Can Earn 500 Advantage Card Points A Day

Boots is launching a new recycling scheme set to encourage customers to return empty health, beauty and wellness products in exchange for rewards.

Using new technology, Scan2Recycle, customers will be rewarded with 500 Boots Advantage Card points (worth £5) for every five products recycled. The products can be from any brand (not just Boots or No7).

Boots is the first UK retailer to use the Scan2Recycle technology, which also allows customers to track how much packaging they've recycled over time.

The new scheme will be available in 50 Boots stores across the UK from today and customers can simply scan their empty packaging with their mobile phone at home, before popping into a select Boots store to drop them off.

The deposited bottles will then be returned to Boots' recycling partner ReWorked where they will be transformed into new products!

Joanna Rogers, Trading Director and VP of Beauty at Boots said: "To help our customers shop and consume more sustainably, we're excited to launch the most inclusive recycling scheme on the market.

"Customers will be able to recycle even the most difficult health, beauty and wellness empties, from old mascaras and empty toothpaste tubes to finished lipsticks and empty vitamin pots.

"Our customers can then feel even better about treating themselves with their Boots Advantage Card points."

For health and safety reasons, there are select items that cannot be returned, including aerosols, perfume bottles, nail polish bottles and razors.

The move is part of Boots' pledge to become more sustainable. Last year, Boots became the first national pharmacy, health and beauty retailer in the UK to move to brown paper carrier bags - replacing plastic bags across 2,465 stores.

Boots Opticians also introduced Recyclens, the first free recycling contact lens on the UK high street.

In addition, Boots is part of the UK Plastics Pact, which works to transform the UK plastic packaging sector by 2025.
