With venues featuring beer gardens, rooftops and patios now opening up again after one of the most difficult years in modern history, it's time to let your hair down and catch up with friends.

And what better way to do this than with the perfect summertime tipple?

Cue Malibu Watermelon, the refreshing new flavour of the coconut rum-based drink.

Up until now, this fruity form of Malibu has only been available in the US where the website says: "Sip on a slice of summer with Malibu's newest flavor, Malibu Watermelon!"

Best enjoyed over ice, the drink is said to pack "a fruity burst of watermelon flavor with notes of smooth, tropical Caribbean Rum".

It goes without saying that this is the perfect partner for flavourful cocktails, with the company website listing a variety of recipe inspos for you and your friends to try.

There's something for everyone, from a simple soda water concoction to a Malibu Watermelon-based Mojito and Colada.

You can almost feel that cool summer breeze.

We know Malibu Watermelon will be travelling across the pond thanks to Instagram via @newfoodsuk, where it was announced that it's headed to the UK and will be available to buy from Asda.

The only downside? We don't know when, although the post does promise that it will be "very soon" - so keep your eyes peeled for updates.

Back in March, the company's UK Twitter account teased the launch of the delightfully-named MaliMoo - a canned drink combining its staple liqueur with creamy milk.

As you might imagine, fans were dubious about the drink, with one person commenting: "I just threw up in my eyes."

Although others expressed interest in sampling the Malimoo cocktail, turns out they'd pulled a fast one on us after revealing it was all just an April Fool's prank.

In a follow-up post, they wrote: "Note to self: April 1st is probably not the best day to launch a new product."

The good news is, it looks like Malibu Watermelon is legit and is set to join the other refreshingly fruity varieties on the supermarket shelves, including pineapple, passion fruit and strawberry spritz.

Let summer commence!
