Iran has issued a worrying threat as the United States is reportedly preparing for a ground invasion of the country.
We're now on the 31st day of the conflict in the Middle East, which began on 28 February when America and Israel joined forces to send missiles towards Iran, with leaders President Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu claiming they did so to prevent the country from creating nuclear weapons.
The fighting quickly escalated and pulled in other countries, such as neighbouring Gulf states and US bases, with the death toll rising. According to The Independent, more than 4,500 people have lost their lives since the war began.
And there are still no signs of the war winding down, after Iran rejected a US ceasefire proposal last week and responded with its own negotiation plan.

Now, in a new video posted on Sunday (29 March), Iran’s military spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaqari said that Trump would be sending his troops into a ‘swamp of death' if they were to invade on the ground.

It comes as, according to The Washington Post, the Pentagon is preparing for weeks of ground operations in Iran, and thousands of American soldiers and Marines have arrived in the Middle East.
Anonymous officials said the operation would 'fall short of a full-scale invasion and could instead involve raids by a mixture of Special Operations forces and conventional infantry troops'.
The publication outlined how a mission like this could expose US personnel to an array of threats, including Iranian drones and missiles; however, it's unclear which, if any, of the Pentagon's plans Trump has approved.
He previously called a ground invasion a ‘waste of time and told reporters in the Oval Office last week: "I’m not putting troops anywhere. If I were, I certainly wouldn’t tell you, but I’m not putting troops."
Meanwhile, in the new video from Zolfaqari, the military spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, the leaders of the United States have delegated the authority to command the armed forces to someone who, due to imbalance, dangerous and wrong positions and decisions, has led the US army into the swamp of death."
And as per The Express, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran's parliamentary speaker, also claimed that America was publicly sending 'messages of negotiation and dialogue' but at the same time was 'secretly planning a ground attack'.
He added: "Our men are waiting for the arrival of the American soldiers on the ground to set them on fire and punish their regional allies once and for all."

It comes after there's been confusion in recent days over whether the Trump administration is winding down the war or threatening to amplify it.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said last week that if the regime in Tehran does not end its nuclear ambitions and cease its threats against the US and its allies, Trump is 'prepared to unleash hell' against them.
She said in a statement on behalf of the White House: "President Trump does not bluff, and he is prepared to unleash hell. Iran should not miscalculate again."
Leavitt also added of the new ground invasion reports: “It’s the job of the Pentagon to make preparations in order to give the Commander in Chief maximum optionality. It does not mean the President has made a decision.”
