Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy has been found not guilty on six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault after a six month trial at Chester Crown Court.

Jurors could not reach a verdict on one count of rape and one of attempted rape, as a decision on a possible re-trial for the outstanding charges is pending.

The not guilty verdicts were unanimous and Judge Everett discharged the trial today (13 January), with the court case having begun on 10 August last year.

41-year-old Louis Saha Matturie, Mendy's co-accused and alleged 'fixer' was also found not guilty of three counts of rape, with the jury failing to reach a verdict on three counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault.

Both men had denied all of the allegations made against them, with a total of 13 women accusing them of multiple sexual offences.

Mendy had been suspended by Manchester City in August 2021 after being charged with rape.
