If you’ve been after an excuse to upgrade your phone, then this is it. After months of anticipation, Apple has officially launched the iPhone 16, and it’s going straight to the top of our wish list.

This morning (Monday 9), Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled the shiny new smartphone at Apple’s birthplace in Cupertino, California.

Standing in the Steve Jobs Theatre in Apple Park, Cook filled us in on all of the exciting things we can expect.

The much-anticipated Apple event featured the tagline 'It’s Glowtime' as well as the company’s logo surrounded by a colourful, glowing aura.

We learned about the new colours to expect - pink, teal and ultramarine - as well as the handset being available in black and white.

But the one thing the techies can't get enough of is the new emoji function.

Using 'Apple Intelligence', iPhone 16 users will be able to create their own emojis.

One person wrote on X: "Creating new emoji just by typing them out?! I am SOLD!"

Another said: "Definitely, as an emoji enthusiast, I'm excited about this new feature on the iPhone! I hope it will be available for iOS 18, not just for the iPhone 16."

A third added: "Emoji ai for iPhone is crazy."

Here's hoping we'll all be able to join in rather than just those of us with an iPhone 16.

The iPhone 16 is expected to go on sale later this month, you’ll be able to shop it at the likes of Sky Mobile, Amazon and Carphone Warehouse.
