Woman builds her own privacy fence but people think it's ruining garden for herself

The DIY project divided opinions online

It seems the sun brings with it a whole load of rituals; from park barbecues and staycations all the way through to beer garden afternoons and home renovations to truly mark the beginning of summer.

Whether it's building a swimming pool in your back-garden to cool off from the heat or simply splurging on some new outdoor lounging furniture - there are a bunch of little things you can do to spruce up your outdoorsy areas.

And it was no different for one woman who took it upon herself to build a privacy fence yet people seem to think she's ruining her garden for herself.

The mum tried her hand at some DIY and has chronicled the whole process on TikTok but it has clearly garnered some very split opinions.

The overlay text on many of her videos reads: "Creating a dream garden in my council house."

In her TikToks, the woman explains to her 46.6k followers exactly how she hopes to achieve her perfect garden noting what materials she uses, the price and the method she goes about pulling it all together.

In one clip, she can be seen covering up the original hip-level fence surrounded by mountains and lush foliage with privacy screens that measure a little under six feet and cost just £22.50 each.

She captioned the video which has since clocked up over 1.3 million views: "Privacy screens, you have my heart."

While the mum was clearly chuffed with the success of her DIY project - it's clear many needed some more convincing pointing out concerns for nearby neighbours and her own obstructed view of the lush vistas.

One TikTok user commented: "Looks nice, but poor neighbours having to see the back of it."

"Poor neighbours," echoed a second.

The woman has since responded to such comments, letting critics know that there are 'no neighbours' and that her house sits on a 'back lane and field'.

A third penned: "Looks great but what a shame to block out that great view."

"I don’t get it?" asked another. "Why block such a naturally beautiful view?? Looks odd."

The woman also replied to similar comments from people worried about the loss of view.

She wrote: "I'd rather my kids have privacy. Also I’m surrounded by the view we live in between two mountains I see it every single day out of every window."

Others, however, were a lot more supportive of the home renovation project.

One TikTok user wrote: "I really don’t understand why people have such negative comments to make. It looks lovely."

"It’s amazes me the things people can do these days DIY I can’t even paint a wall properly," praised a second.

A third added: "I think you’re fantastic, like really, you’re an inspo for all woman. I love watching your content."

What do you make of it?
