Grim video shows what actually happens to your body when you take weight loss injections

More and more people are taking weight loss injections, but not everyone is aware of how they actually work or their side effects.

A simulation showing exactly how Ozempic works, as well as some of the most common side effects, has left viewers with 'PTSD'.

Medications such as Ozempic and Mounjaro were originally created to help treat type 2 diabetes, but have become a household name thanks to their weight loss properties.

Celebrities have flocked to using the injections, as have many social media users and probably a few people you know, too.

Amy Schumer has previously opened up about side effects she experienced while taking Ozempic, as did singer Adam Lambert.

They join the likes of James Corden, Meghan Trainor and Lizzo who have all opened up about using the jabs to get a svelte new figure.

But what do the semaglutide drugs actually do, and how do they work?

A video has broken down the process of weight loss by using Ozempic.

Created and animated by Zack D Films, the video states: "Once Ozempic is in your bloodstream, it activates the part of your brain that makes you feel full, reducing your appetite."

"It also stabilises your blood sugar, stopping sudden cravings.

"Then, it slows down how fast your stomach empties food, which keeps you feeling full for longer after a meal.

"This cause you to lose weight as you eat less, but it can make some people feel sick and even give them diarrhoea."

The animation for this last part was graphic, to say the least.

Viewers were horrified by the final scene, showing an animated person suffering from an upset stomach.

"Last scene was NOT NEEDED," wrote one.

"Tbh, watching these animations make me lose my appetite more than Ozempic," joked another.

"The part where he said 'diarrhoea' made me laugh so hard that I had to go to the toilet," laughed one viewer.

One medical worker said she has experience of dealing with people who are taking the medication: "I worked at a pharmacy for a while, you have to drink SOOO much water or you’ll be sick a lot and we got a lot of complaints of very painful stomach cramps."

One said the video put them off their food: "Zack I am currently eating chocolate and that last part made me lose my cravings, thank you for working better than Ozempic."

"I was thinking about using it until that last part, thanks Zack," joked another.

Amy Schumer revealed she suffered badly with sickness and nausea, and lost 30lbs very quickly but says it wasn't 'liveable'.

She opened up about her experience on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen last year.

“I was one of those people that felt so sick and couldn’t play with my son,” Schumer, who shares son Gene with husband Chris Fischer, continued.

“I was so skinny and he’s throwing a ball at me and [I couldn’t].”

She also told the Howard Stern Show about how she was 'shrivelling' away while taking it.

A Novo Nordisk spokesperson previously told Tyla: "Patient safety is of the utmost importance to Novo Nordisk. We recommend patients take these prescription-only medications for their approved indications and under the supervision of a healthcare professional.

"Use of GLP-1 medicines such as Ozempic® (semaglutide injection) and Wegovy®▼ (semaglutide injection) may be associated with gastrointestinal (GI) side effects. In the phase 3a clinical trials with Wegovy® for weight management, GI side effects (such as nausea, vomiting, constipation and diarrhoea) were among the most frequently reported during dose escalation, most were mild to moderate in severity and resolved without permanent treatment discontinuation.

"We continuously collect safety data on our marketed medicines and work closely with the authorities to ensure patient safety. We recommend that any patients experiencing side effects while taking GLP-1 medicines report them to their healthcare provider and via the MHRA Yellow Card scheme: https://yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/."
