Meghan Trainor admits to using Mounjaro as she addresses major transformation

The US singer gave the type 2 diabetes drug a special 'shout-out'

In an emotional statement, Meghan Trainor this week confessed to using a Type 2 diabetes drug in a bid to lose weight.

Taking to Instagram, the American singer claimed the controversial decision to inject herself with Mounjaro was inspired by her two children, insisting she wanted to become a healthier version of herself for them.

Mounjaro is a medication containing tirzepatide, and was recently approved for weight loss management - though, its primary use is to treat the symptoms of type 2 diabetes.

The drug lowers blood sugar levels and targets the GLP-1 and GIP receptors, the body's appetite-regulating hormones.

Mounjaro - like fellow diabetes drug Ozempic - has become somewhat of a Hollywood trend in recent years, however, with a multitude of big-name stars claiming it helped them to shed a few pounds.

Amongst those who've admitted to taking the drug lately are Adam Lambert, Scott Disick and Amy Schumer.

31-year-old Trainor has since joined the seemingly ever-growing list, confessing to have used Mounjaro in combination with a healthier diet in a bid to become her best self.

In a lengthy social media post, the Grammy-winning musician shared a super-glam selfie - showing off her newly trimmed-down physique - and giving the drug a special 'shout-out'.

The mum-of-two - who shares sons Riley, 4, and Barry, 21 months, with Spy Kids alum Daryl Sabara - began her post with a bittersweet admission, however.

"Feeling so honored to be recognized by @billboard Women in Music as a Hitmaker - what a dream!" the 'All About That Bass' singer penned.

"But it’s a little disheartening that so many of the questions (and comments) were focused on my body instead of my music, my passion, or the decade of hard work that got me here.

"This is what it’s like to be a woman in the music industry."

Speaking about her newfound body positivity, however, Trainor added: "No, I don’t look like I did 10 years ago. I’ve been on a journey to be the healthiest, strongest version of myself for my kids and for me.

"I’ve worked with a dietician, made huge lifestyle changes, started exercising with a trainer, and yes, I used science and support (shoutout to Mounjaro!) to help me after my 2nd pregnancy."

The star continued: "And I’m so glad I did because I feel great. Here’s to celebrating talent, growth, and the power of putting yourself first. Let’s keep shifting the convo to what REALLY matters. With love."
