A new dating trend involving glitter is taking over TikTok right now, and the meaning behind it is very unexpected.

The dating scene in 2025 is a minefield, with rampant ghosting, people who are unsure of what they actually want, and cheaters. The year started with people eating grapes under tables hoping to secure a long-lasting match, and dating experts have already issued warnings about 'roaching' in dating.

Could it get any worse? Apparently yes, it can.

But thanks to glitter, we may soon have a way to navigate on particular issue in modern dating - cheaters on dating apps.

So, how does this all relate to glitter? The idea behind this trend is actually rooted in the fact that there are married men on dating apps searching for dates (make it make sense).

Women are understandably outraged by their time and effort being wasted by men who are in relationships. A number of people have now resorted to wearing glitter on dates to try and stop this from happening.

The logic is a guy cheating on his partner will try to be discreet about it, but nothing gives away the fact he’s been with another woman more than leaving behind a trail of sparkle all over his clothing, face, car seat, and anywhere else in his vicinity.

As anyone who has worn glitter knows, once glitter is on your face, it’s almost certainly never coming off, for better or worse. In this case, it’s for the greater good to encourage wives and girlfriends to ask questions about why their man is covered in glitter.

It is unclear who started this glitter tactic, but it has already picked up a lot of traction on TikTok. One creator on the app shared a video that quickly became a viral sensation, with a whopping two million likes. It shows content creator Dalia Grande spraying herself with glitter before a date.

“Going on a first date bc I’m at the age where they could be married (married men HATE glitter),” she captioned the video.

“She’s protecting herself and helping other women out I’m here for it,” one commenter wrote.

“I’m afraid it’s going over a lot of men’s heads,” another person shared.

“We love a girl's girl,” wrote another fan.

“That amount of glitter spray will repel married men, mosquitoes, bears, and vampires,” someone else quipped.

People in the comments were also impressed by the hack, claiming they were going to try it out for themselves.

Glitter, the repellent you never knew you needed until now.
