For anyone who spends enough time on TikTok, the tradwife aesthetic is hard to miss, with plenty of are floral dresses, spotless kitchens, loaves of bread pulled from the oven, and a level of wholesomeness before it turns ‘not safe for work’.

As Cosmopolitan has found, it turns out that the ‘tradwife’ fetish is becoming bigger than ever, bringing in a new perspective on the debate about gender roles, feminism, sex, and a returning conservative ideology, as the glossy fantasy has taken on a life of its own. A King’s College study even found that while 59 percent of women believed tradwife content has a negative impact on society, 79 percent still found the calm, relaxed lifestyle appealing.

That contrasting tension helps explain why so many women are also being drawn to the more controversial tradwife fetish online. According to Pornhub, searches for tradwife porn rose by 72 percent in 2024, with women making up 27 percent of viewers. The biggest audience was aged 18 to 24, suggesting the appeal is not limited to people with traditionally conservative views at all.

Instead, experts say the draw is often less about politics and more about fantasy, escapism, and taboo. Sara Reinis, an academic at the University of Pennsylvania who researches the appeal of the tradwife lifestyle, said: "Tradwives perform and stage a fantasy for social media that depicts a life without burnout, stress, or struggle…Despite its artificiality, it still has a magnetic pull in times of political, economic, and societal tension."

For some women, that fantasy spills into kink without changing how they see the world in real life. One woman in the report, Charlotte, described herself as a feminist with no interest in becoming a tradwife, but admitted the genre still has a strange pull. She explained: "Sometimes it’s fantasy; sometimes after a bad day at work I’ll watch something like this for a morbid sense of catharsis."

Porn historian Noelle Perdue also suggested the trend says more about how mainstream tradwife imagery has become than it does about women suddenly embracing conservative values. She said: "I don’t necessarily think that people who are aligning themselves with traditional conservative values are seeking out tradwife pornography."

That may be why the contradiction itself seems to be part of the appeal. For some, it overlaps with submission, degradation, or roleplay kinks. For others, it is simply the thrill of stepping into a fantasy that feels completely removed from who they are in everyday life. As Charlotte put it: "The fact I feel like people would be mad at me for watching it adds to the appeal."
