Private investigator reveals secret trick cheaters use to hide affairs in plain sight from their partner

Paul Evans explained how you can catch a cheater

A private investigator has come out to reveal how you can catch a secret cheater by revealing their commonly used trick.

Even though the advancement of technology has been great for a lot of aspects of daily life, it also has made it far too easy to cheat, and to hide an affair.

No more are the days where you’d have to hide your inkwell, quill and scroll of paper as you wrote sonnets to another man.

Now, you have hidden apps, self-deleting chats and more.

However, if you’re not smart enough to use the above, you’re likely to get caught.

According to World Population Review’s poll, 36 percent of Brits admitted to cheating just last year.

Resume.io’s survey for 2025 had 46 percent of respondents admitting to cheating.

It’s a scary thought that so many people willy nilly choose to deceive their partners, but there’s something you can do about it so you can get the proof you need to leave.

Paul Evans from I-Spy Detectives told Metro one common way cheaters get found out, and it’s not what you’d expect.

It’s by using one app we all have and use daily, without giving it much thought.

The private investigator shared he has been seeing more and more people using shared calendars to plan their hookups, and even using work or appointments as cover.

“On the surface, it looks like a harmless dentist appointment or a work meeting, but when you dig deeper, those calendar entries are often a cover for something else,” Paul said.

“We’ve uncovered cases where the same slot is used every week, always in a different location, and never with a trace of genuine work behind it.”

Whether it’s a ‘team lunch’ or ‘client call’, the cheater can hide their illicit affairs for a long time, as their plans look legitimate on the surface.

The calendar app also can allow calendars to be shared privately, for things to be hidden, or the plans sent to different accounts.

Notifications can be turned off, or muted, which means that you - the significant other - may never know about the plans.

Paul explained: “They can sit there for months without raising suspicion, especially if the partner never checks.

“That’s where we see a lot of deception happening. They know most people won’t think twice about a notification that looks work-related.”

If they don’t use a calendar app, then Paul says it’s only a matter of time before they slip up, as they’ll do some things that ‘always give them away in the end’.

For example, suddenly needing to clock in more hours at work.

“If your partner always seems to be ‘working late’ on Tuesdays, but there are no calls, no emails, and no explanation, it’s worth questioning,” said Paul. "Patterns are the biggest giveaway.”

There are other things you might notice too, and you won’t have to work hard to find out what those things are.

He added: “You don’t have to go snooping, but you can start by asking direct questions. Most affairs unravel when people spot the little inconsistencies.”
