From random change and crumpled up receipts to empty water bottles and rogue make-up products - we've probably all got a whole load of random bits and bobs scattered about our cars.

Well, it's clear there's one seemingly unorthodox item that will actually come in clutch with one woman explaining the hilarious reason why she keeps a pair of kitchen tongs in her car.

People are going absolutely mad for the handy little life hack and hailing this industrious Aussie as a pure genius for her outside-the-box thinking.

The woman, who goes by the handle @asian.barbiee online, took to TikTok to share the trick with her 167.1k followers.

She began by telling viewers: "Whenever someone new comes into my car, they're always like, 'Why do you have tongs in your car?'"

Admitting that she was 'notoriously a really bad driver', the TikToker explained: "You know, when you come up to those boom gates [barrier arms] for the car park and they've got a little ticket machine, I can never get close enough to the ticket machine without my handy dandy little tongs."

She then demonstrated how she reaches out the tongs from her window and revealed that any driver behind 'always laughs' at her.

"I've watched them in the rearview mirror," the woman went on. "But, you know what, I'd rather be that weirdo with the tongs who's, you know, lowkey kind of smart then that person who's doing this [faffing about]."

The driver ended the short clip by calling the awkward open and closing door manoeuvre 'embarrassing' before signing off: "Tongs for life!"

The video has since clocked up more than 200,000 views on the platform, alongside hundreds of comments from people eager to share their reactions to the car hack.

"My solution to being a bad driver," the overlay text added.

"Omg you are a freaking genius," exclaimed a second, while a third chimed in: "So clever especially for short people like me!"

Someone else quipped: "I am so doing this. Off I got to get some silicone grip tongs!"

"I always have to put my car in park, take off my belt and lean out the window or open the door," penned another

A final TikTok user echoed: "I’m a good driver and honestly that’s a brilliant idea! Some people just have an off day for driving and those things would certainly help!"

Reckon you'll be trying out this car hack at all?
