Let's be honest, we've all done a few things we regret while under the influence - but furiously messaging Lewis Capaldi and calling him a "w*nker" isn't one of them.

The same can't be said however for mum Amy Brennan, who had accidentally signed up for a £500 per year singing app while drunk after believing it would enable her to sing live with the Scottish star.

The 31-year-old woke up to discover she'd not only left herself out of pocket but she'd also sent expletive messages to the 'Someone You Loved' star.

Yet, a mortified Amy desperately contacted Smule to cancel the £9.99 weekly purchase she'd put in place, she discovered things had quickly gone south when she'd become a little tipsy and stumbled across Scottish singing sensation, Lewis' in-app profile.

Posting the hilarious results to social media, Amy's quickly gone viral as her sorry, drunken story has been shared.

The sales representative from Watford, had decided to kick back with a bottle of wine on a rare evening alone - as her six-year-old daughter Emmie was spending time with her dad.

Amy said: "I have a few drinks and I think I'm Aretha Franklin. I've downloaded the app Smule - which is essentially karaoke on your phone - before but I always delete it out of sheer embarrassment the next day.

"I've sometimes played it with my little girl, but with Emmie, we can only perform strictly Disney songs.

"So in my drunken state, I'd gone on the hunt for more songs that I could cover and I commented on a Lewis Capaldi video."

The Smule app - which allows you to video yourself performing - also offers you the chance to perform alongside stars. The famous performers record a video of themselves singing - and users can then see themselves side by side.

Amy added: "I thought I was singing live with Lewis and he'd asked me to join in personally. To say I was a bit peeved off when I realised is a bit of an understatement.

"I'd done my make-up, got dressed up and I took it really personally when I realised it was pre-recorded.

Adding: "My drunken, enthusiastic, turned-sad self had left him a very LONG message, essentially calling him a w****r. I put something along the lines of 'I saw your invite and thought we were singing together.

"I thought you (Lewis) were great - but now I just think you mugged me off. I did still tell him I thought his voice was great and he was a funny Scottish b***d.

"When I first found out about him, I thought he was a comedian, not even a singer so really I definitely still love him," she continued.

"But I do also know what he's like on social media - if he does open the messages, he'll definitely share them so I thought I might as well save myself the embarrassment!

"Luckily, the app was good about cancelling the payment - as its £500+ for the year, and I don't even like singing!"

It happens to the best of us Amy.
